This is the first issue they will receive and we hope that like our faculty members, residents will also find this bi-weekly wrap-up to be a useful source of information. We include academic and conference deadlines, news, events and recognition about and for our DFCM faculty, residents and staff.

Recognition

Awards, Appointments and Honours

Assistant Professor Dr. Jane Philpott from the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine was awarded the Community Service Award from the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario. The award recognizes the tremendous accomplishments of the school's graduates in service.
 
Professor Emeritus Dr. Philip Herbert was awarded the Reg L. Perkin Family Physician of the Year Award from the Ontario College of Family Physicians. The award recognizes an outstanding College of Family Physicians of Canada members who exemplify the best of what being a family doctor is all about, including exceptional care of patients combined with a significant contribution to the health and well-being of communities and/or society in general.
 


Academic/ Conference Submission Deadlines

DFCM and conference abstract submission deadlines that fall within the next few months. 

November 12, 2011: Application deadline for graduate studies programs (MPH in FCM and MScSCH in FCM) for the Spring 2012 start. Attend an information session about these programs on October 5, 2011.
 
December 1, 2011: Submission deadline for provisional programme and call for papers for Symposia for the AMEE 2012 Conference taking place August 25 - 29, 2012 in Lyon, France. Visit the conference link for submission information.
 
December 15, 2011: Regular abstract submission deadline for the 2012 WONCA Europe conference taking place July 4 - 7, 2012 in Vienna, Austria. WONCA Europe submission link.
 
December 30, 2011: Abstract submission deadline for the WONCA Asia conference taking place May 24 – 27, 2012 in Jeju, Korea. WONCA Asia submission link.
