This is a rare 1912 Chinese-English bilingual map of Hankow (Hankou), part of modern Wuhan, China. The map was issued by the English-language Hankou based newspaper, Hankow Daily News , shortly following the 1911 burning of Hankou by Qing loyalist forces during the Xinhai Revolution (October 18 - December 1, 1911). The cover features a map of the entire United States overshadowed by a large portrait of Uncle Sam pointing his index finger at the viewer. It extends beyond the wall, illustrating topography, as far east at the Mount of Olives, west to Birket Mamillah, north as far as Kubur el Muluk (Tomb of the Kings), and south to the 'Hill of Evil Council. The railroads are highlighted in red and trace the way from Brooklyn to Boston. The steamer 'Cape Charles' is used for the transfer across Long Island Sound.
