Fair Welcome, Fair Work pledged at Accountability Assembly

158 people attended Citizens:mk’s annual Accountability Assembly at the City Church on 25th April 2019, representing 17 member institutions and many other MK organisations.  Power-holders, including the leaders of MK's main political parties and Thames Valley Police, pledged to support Citizens:mk's campaign goals for 'Refugees Welcome', 'Fair Work' and 'Police & Primaries Together'.  Read more.
Sign up now for Brexit 'Weaving Trust', 16 May

With the European elections approaching, and strong feelings about Brexit in the air, Citizens:mk leaders are organising a special Brexit Weaving Trust event on 16th May.  The aim of the event is to promote dialogue and trust between local people who have opposing views.

The event will be held at Cornerstone 5.30-7pm on Thursday 16th May, one week before the European Election, and is open only to people who are accompanied by someone who voted differently in the 2016 EU Referendum.   They must sign up as a pair of Brexit voting opposites.

At the event, participants will be asked to take up positions in two circles of facing chairs around the cloisters - Leave facing Remain voters - and have a series of short conversations about their current thoughts and feelings about living in MK today.

At the Accountability Assembly on 25th April, nine people stood up to pledge their commitment to attend this special event, including Cllr Alex Walker, MK Conservative Party leader.  Others are invited to sign up now.

"Political differences should not stand in our way as we build our community resilience and seek to heal divisions,” said Fidele Mutwarisibo, leader of Citizens:mk’s Fight Against Hate campaign (pictured)

“I hope Citizens:mk leaders and supporters can find the courage and creativity to persuade people who voted differently over Brexit to sign up for this special 16th May event.”

ARGUMENT FOR COMMUNITY ORGANISING

To make change, we need power.
We develop relational power by sharing self-interest through 121 meetings with followers, peer leaders and power holders.
We develop leaders and build a broad-based alliance, ready to make change through a process of research, action and evaluation.
We enjoy our campaigns wins and keep our broad-based alliance fighting fit for future campaigns.
