It’s hard to believe that Urban Habitat started our Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute (BCLI) 10 years ago!
 
The program, which helps emerging leaders get appointed to commissions to pass equitable policies, has made a difference in so many lives. We want to share one inspiring story with you about how BCLI is transforming leadership in the Bay Area.
 
Mary Bier was a single, working mother and renter living in Pacifica. She was already a leader in her community, but she wanted to do more, so she joined BCLI in 2016. With us, she gained the skills and tools she needed to reach the next level.
 
Watch what happened next:

 Mary’s story tells us so much. First,

• BCLI is working! We are making our government more representative, responsive, and accountable. We’ve graduated about 140 people, and helped over 50% of them find placements on boards and commissions all over the Bay Area.
• Your support is key. We couldn’t do this work without you. Whether you support us financially, or nominate emerging leaders for BCLI - thank you.
• The sky is the limit. BCLI alumni, the Bay Area needs your voices and your leadership. Consider running for office – if Mary did it, you can too!
