NCA Parents,

It was brought to my attention that a hit and run accident occurred near our primary school on Monday, May 6th, around 3:15.  A white minivan was speeding eastbound on Thome and hit the mirror of a parked dark-colored minivan parked on Thome. The white minivan did not stop and sped up again. It ran the stop sign at Thome and Glenwood heading northbound on Glenwood.  Many parents and children were nearby when this happened. We are so blessed that no one was hurt due to this reckless driver.

Please use this incident to remember how important it is to keep the children on the sidewalks and to cross only at the crosswalks. We also need to remind our children to stop at the curb before they choose to cross the street. Unfortunately, we have witnessed too many close calls, both in the morning and afternoon, with drivers who are not cautious around our school zone.

Thank you to the parent who called 911 and reported this incident to the police. If you are the owner of the dark-colored minivan who had their mirror hit, please contact the police department.

School News & Reminders

Update on Mr. Russell- A Beloved Member of NCA: I am saddened to share the news that Mr. Russell St. Germain, a beloved member of our NCA school community, passed away last week. Mr. St. Germain, who was our band instructor for many years, had been in our prayers since he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Due to his treatments and his declining energy, he had to stop teaching band in January in order to focus on his health. His service was private, but cards can be sent to:

Dan Pritchard

Let’s continue to keep him and his family in our prayers.

NCA Fall Sports Registration is Now Open
Don’t delay, register now on SchoolSpeak for Boys and Girls Soccer, Cross Country, and Girls Volleyball. Fall sports run roughly from the end of August until the end of October.

Boys and Girls Soccer: NCA’s soccer program is open to boys and girls in grades 5-8. All students must be registered on SchoolSpeak prior to Tuesday, June 4, 2019. The registration fee is $100 per student and includes your student’s uniform. Our soccer league finalizes all schedules and games during the summer months so we need to have our final rosters to the league by June 4. Grades 5-6 will play on the JV team, and grades 7-8 will play on the Varsity team. Teams will be determined and uniforms will be ordered based on registration numbers.

Cross Country: Open to all NCA boys and girls in grades 5-8. All students must be registered on SchoolSpeak prior to Monday, July 15, 2019. The registration fee is $100 per student and includes your student’s uniform. Official practices begin late July/early August.  Mandatory time trials are August 20 and August 22, 6:00 pm, at the lakefront track on the Wilson side. Athletes and one parent/guardian must attend one of these time trials. While the athletes complete their time trials, coaches will meet with the parents to discuss the season, practices, and meets. Time trials will place your athlete in the appropriate pace group for the season. Once school begins, practices will be held Monday-Thursday after school (at the MS campus). Athletes are required to attend at least two practices per week in order to participate in the meets. We anticipate six meets this season; athletes are required to attend four meets.

Girls Volleyball: Grades 4-8. All students must be registered on SchoolSpeak prior to Monday, July 15, 2019. The registration fee is $100 per student and includes your student’s uniform. Teams will be determined and uniforms will be ordered based on registration numbers. For safety reasons, all players in uniform are not allowed to wear jewelry of any kind while in a game or on the bench. This is a mandatory rule that will be enforced by the officials. Anyone with newly pierced ears who cannot remove their earrings will not be allowed to participate.

Late Registrations: $50 additional fee for late registrations. Late registrations are allowed at the coaches’ discretion.

Coaches: You must register your child via SchoolSpeak for soccer, cross country, and volleyball by the deadline. Follow the prompts to complete all of the required information, but please do not pay for your child. We appreciate your huge time commitment coaching all of our children.

Financial Assistance: We never want any child to not join a team because of the cost. If you need a reduction in fees, please contact Leigh Holzman at 773-743-6277.
