May 2019 Newsletter

Message from the HABA Board

Greetings -

Join me in celebrating HABA's first scholarship recipient!  I know many of you involved over the years have worked on this effort to fund and award a HABA scholarship. Thanks to all of you we have come this far today.  The HABA scholarship will remove the financial barrier of a LSAT preparation course for a potential law student and is proof of yours and HABA's commitment to diversifying the legal field by aiding law school hopefuls at the earliest stages of their legal career.  I was impressed with the caliber of the applicants and foresee them accomplishing many great achievements.  Congratulations to our scholarship recipient Mai Tong Yang whom agreed to share a little bit about herself below.

Now is a great time to stay engaged if you're a regular and if you've never joined us before, I encourage you to get to know HABA.  We've got our annual HABA picnic coming up on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Keller Regional Park.  (Picnic flyer and a map of our shelter location is below in this newsletter).  Block your calendars and make every effort to attend as we will have some really good food, play some games and activities, and continue to build up our Hmong legal community.

Enjoy our first ever Hmong Veterans Day on May 14th and continue the celebrations with Asian Pacific Heritage the rest of the month!

- Mai Lee Yang, HABA President
