Last Month
Last month marked the 4th annual Fly Fishing Film Tour for North Sound Trout Unlimited and it certainly didn't disappoint. In partnering with The Confluence Fly Shop and the Lincoln Theater it was our largest event yet. Thank you to all that could make it out and make this such a memorable event for the chapter. Raffle proceeds are going towards furthering our goals of protecting and conserving our wild and native cold water fish and fisheries that we all love and enjoy. With this being our largest event of the year it was made possible with support from:

 Oskar Blues
 The Lincoln Theater
 Sage Fly Fishing
 Smith Optics
 Anglers Rendezvous
 Cypress Designs/DogFish Boats
 Remote Medical International
 Raging River Sales
 The Confluence Fly Shop
 Dryft
 The Fly Fish Journal
 All-Waters Fly Fishing
 Brandywine Kitchen
 Patagonia
 Costa Sunglasses
 Tony’s Coffee
 Joe’s Garden

Thanks again to all of our gracious supporters, events like this would not be possible without their continued donation.

Volunteer Opportunities

As our welcomed 2019 Spring catch and release steelhead season winds to a close, our North Sound TU steelhead spawner surveys on Day and Finney Creeks are really ramping up.  We’ve been surveying since the end of January this year, seeing very little in the early months. We've logged a few more new redds here and there since the end of March.  The steelhead fishing this year on the Skagit and Sauk could be categorized as spotty, with small pulses of fresh steelhead moving through periodically and then everything gets pretty quiet for a week or two.  Our redd counts have somewhat followed suit and the numbers look a little behind what we’re used to seeing at this point in the season. Salmon fry are out in abundance, however.  The stream flows for the most part have been abnormally low for an unusually long period of time, which may be affecting spawn timing or stream accessibility this year as well.  We’ll continue to survey through mid June and would expect to see a bit more activity going into May, which tends to be the peak month for spawning in the creek sections we survey.  The weather’s been mostly pleasant, conditions exceptional for surveying and streamside conversation endlessly entertaining as we stumble along on the bankside cobble looking for the latest redd.  Thanks to Bridget Moran, Don Ensley and Nick Chambers for helping with the surveys this year.  If you’re interested in participating in a survey or two in May or June let me know.  I’ve been focusing on mid week, usually Wednesday or Thursday, but we may be able to coordinate a weekend survey as well.  The next anticipated survey will be during the second week of May.
