Formed by Word and Sacrament
Dear St, V's,
At the 9:30 Mass this weekend we will celebrate with four of our sweet and wonderful kids as they receive their First Holy Communion. They have been preparing for this day and will rightfully be proud and excited. Congratulations Aubrey, Patrick, Margot and Joseph!
Last week we received one nomination at the 9:30 Mass for a candidate for the Parish Council. We need three more. We've been fortunate over the years to have sufficient candidates to make an election possible. Voting can be a challenge: we are so blessed with candidates who bring different gifts and ways of being to the table.  I hope it is not a cause for discouragement among those not elected: a nice thing about being a parishioner at St. Vincent's is that there are so many ways in which to serve the community.
We would like to have some more names for the ballot, so please think whether there is anyone you might encourage to accept a nomination this weekend. If you would like to be on the Council yourself (and I hope you would), nudge your pew-mate and ask them to nominate you!
This weekend we will also have the annual Mass Count that the Archdiocese requests of every parish. You will find little papers in your pew to fill out. Thanks for your help with this.
Peace,
Colleen, PA
On May 7th Pope Francis released an important Apostolic Letter titled "You are the light of the world!" calling every bishop, all clergy and every diocese to accountability regarding the sexual abuse of minors and vulnerable adults.  This is an important and significant document that sets out clear standards for addressing the issue of sexual abuse that are binding upon the whole Church.  Please take some time to familiarize yourself with this important Apostolic Letter

From the Ad Hoc Committee
In late January, the Ad Hoc Committee on Church Reform wrote to the US Papal Nuncio, (cc'ing Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago) regarding our parish hopes for the February meeting in Rome of the Bishop Presidents of the world conferences of Bishops. Cardinal Cupich was a member of the organizing committee of that gathering.  Amber Hendricks, Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee, signed that letter on behalf of the committee and the parish. You can read the letter from the Ad Hoc Committee here
Archbishop Christophe Pierre responded briefly to Amber by post.  You can read Archbishop Pierre's reply here.

Jonestown Planning Council Meeting
Date: Tuesday, May 14
Time: 7 PM
Place: Aquarium Rescue Center
901 E Fayette St. (walk from St V's).
Four children will receive Eucharist for the first time this Sunday. Sacraments are celebrated by the whole community: in the context of the parish family. With that in mind, this year the younger children of our community will participate in helping create the banners each communicant makes (as a part of their preparation to receive the Sacrament).  When those who have received take their banners home, they will take with them the forward-looking hopes of those smaller than them, who form a part of the whole family of faith and mutual support.
Street Requiem
On the evening of April 28th, the church was filled with the powerful sound of many voices, raised in lament yet also in hope, memorializing those who have died on the streets. The choirs and young musicians from the Peabody gave a stunning performance; no one came away unmoved. It was a treat to see our former Pastor, Fr. Lawrence, in attendance.  St. V's Emergency Services received over a thousand dollars in free-will offerings. We hope we can host the Arundel Vocal Arts Society and the Peabody Community Chorus again.

...Many of you generously shared your feelings and frustrations and your struggles. By doing so, you helped me and my co-workers to better understand what our Church needs to do to heal and to become safer and once again worthy of your trust.
