Principal's Message

Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,

Thank you to everyone who supported the Wizard Walk and Family Fun Night last week! Our students and staff were incredibly flexible as we watched the weather, and thoroughly enjoyed the full walk and evening activities. A special thank you to Laura McMahon, Katie Stein, Tammy Newsom, Leigh Eicke, and the PTO Executive Board for all their efforts coordinating these two events!

I am grateful for the outpouring of support from our school community. Thank you to our PTO for organizing these events and raising funds for our students. This year, the students raised over $37,000, which means many wonderful learning opportunities are in store for the future! Thank you to the many sponsors who supported our students through monetary and in-kind donations and to our parent volunteers who do so through time. It takes the efforts of many generous people to make our events successful.

To view photos from this year’s Wizard Walk and Family Fun Night, please click here. If you have additional photos to share, please email them to wizardyearbookpics@gmail.com. Include the event as the Subject line, but leave the message blank. It is helpful if you send the photos in the largest size possible, so that they are of higher quality. We use many photos from our Flickr account to create the school yearbook.

2019-2020 School Supply Information
As we start planning for the next school year, I want to share information with you regarding school supplies for the 2019-2020 school year. First, purchasing school supplies is voluntary and not required for your child to attend school.  Below is a link to the suggested list of supplies from teachers that students will use throughout the school year. In addition, some of these school supplies may be used as “community” supplies and shared with the entire class and some may be used by just your child.  Each grade level uses a combination of community supplies and individual supplies.

If your family wishes to purchase school supplies, listed below are some different purchasing options you might consider. As always, we encourage the East Grand Rapids community to purchase their supplies from local vendors and stores that are homegrown in Michigan.

Some options for purchasing school supplies:

  • Online shopping (May 13-June 7) with delivery to school - Information found here.

  • Online shopping with delivery to your home or pick-up in store - Please use this suggested school supply list when purchasing online at local retail stores.

  • Purchase in stores with this suggested school supply list.

Thank you for your continued support of both the school district and our local businesses. If you have any questions regarding school supplies, please contact Deanna Allchin in the main office at 235-7550 or dallchin@egrps.org.

Field Day
Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help out with Field Day this Friday, May 17. We are asking students to please wear their Wizard Walk shirts on Friday as we enjoy some team games together. Also, we are still looking for a few more volunteers to assist at stations. To sign up, please click here. Specific volunteer information will be emailed later this week.

Schedule: K-2 students will have Field Day in the morning.  3-5 students will have Field Day in the afternoon.

Shoes: All students should wear tennis/athletic shoes to protect their feet during the variety of activities.  No sandals or flip-flops. Students cannot participate without appropriate shoes.

Clothing: Please ensure your child is dressed for approximately 3 hours outside, especially if the weather is cool. We hope that all students will wear their Wizard Walk t-shirt on Friday. This makes each grade level easily identifiable for teachers and fosters a sense of collaboration for our team-building activities.

Sunscreen: If you would like your child to wear sunscreen, please apply it at home prior to coming to school.

Weather: If inclement weather prevents holding Field Day, it will be rescheduled for Friday May 24, 2019.  A Skyward blast will be sent notifying parents and volunteers of this decision as soon as practical depending on the weather conditions.

We are excited about what we have planned to make this a fun-filled day of play for our students. This is our final celebration of our TEAM Expectations, and we appreciate everyone who has stepped forward to make it happen.

Warm Regards,

Carlye Allen

Q: “I’ve heard a lot about Now&Forever and I want to contribute. How much should I donate?”

A: That’s a great question, and it’s come up a lot. The short answer is that any amount is important and appreciated. The long answer is a bit more complicated. We’re asking for a three-year pledge to Now&Forever. When we used to do a spring EGRNOW! campaign, we had a suggested donation of $300 per student ...
