LEO- Lecturer III

Job Summary

The Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer III position beginning as early as August 1, 2019. Start date is flexible up to January 1, 2020. The initial appointment is a term-limited 12-month appointment with the likelihood of renewal.This position involves assuming the role of Associate Director of the MS Program in Physiology and Course Director or Co-Course Director for the following courses:

  • Physiology 605: MS Professional Development Seminar
  • Physiology 610: Pathophysiology and Translational Physiology
  • Physiology 700: Coursework Capstone
  • Physiology 703: Research Capstone
Mentoring and advising of current MS students and recruitment of incoming MS students is required. Additional teaching opportunities within masters, undergraduate, medical, and dental courses are also likely. New course development within the MS program will be encouraged.

Required Qualifications*
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physiology or a related field.
  • Previous effective teaching experience (as evidenced by student course evaluations and/or from references).
  • Strong oral presentation, writing, and communication skills, and the ability to provide constructive criticism to help improve student written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to teach advanced level courses in Physiology.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Postdoctoral research experience.
  • Participation in course development, course assessments, program reviews, student advising, and mentoring.
  • Ability to assume the role of Course Director for “Physiology 592: Integrated Neuroscience.”

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
