Nurturing Engaged Citizens

Dear Parents,

We have had a busy couple of weeks at Montessori Academy. Our field trip yesterday was such fun. Brimstone Hill provided our students with a new understanding of the colonial history of our islands. A big thank you to our parent volunteers and our faculty!

Our conservation week was a huge success. We welcomed Mr. Lemmuel Pemberton, Director of Fisheries, and Geoff Folsom, CEO of Enclave Resources, who spoke to the students about the environment and the importance of recycling. Students created crafts from recycled goods, cleaned up Gallow's Bay, and delivered the garbage to the landfill, where we learned about waste management in Nevis.

The week of study, paired with a very informative visit to the landfill, has fueled much discussion among our students about environmentalism and activism. The lower and upper elementary students are putting their concerns into action by writing letter to ministers and organizations.

It's an inspiration to watch the children interact with the world around them and wonder how they'll grow up to change it!

Warmly,
Denise Morgan
Head of School
