NEW TECHNIQUES:

Well. As if I'm not already doing enough, I embarked on an R&D project last fall with my friend Pam Granger Gale of Majik Studios who does marbling. I am making paints and inks with natural materials--earth pigments and natural dyes, and she is teaching me marbling techniques. Right now we are focusing on red, yellow, and black iron oxides and viridian for green and ultramarine for blue in the earth pigment department. I got sidetracked somehow with the dyes and the focus right now is tannins.
So I ask, what if you could marble your tannins, then dye the piece? We are making great progress, having lots of fun doing it, and are preparing to teach classes in the Asheville area. Stay tuned to my schedule, find it in the Upcoming Events button below.
Here is a photo of cutch and pomegranate on paper and fabric. Both fabrics were dipped in iron, then the one on the right was dyed in Brazilwood. The cutch is pinkish on the paper, the pom is yellowish. On the fabric, the cutch is the dark "tiger eyes" and the greenish then grayish is the pomegranate.
