For more than 40 years, Girl Scouts Heart of the South has hosted the Elizabeth Gwin Special Session, an inspiring resident camp program that allows children with special needs to experience and explore their capabilities in the great outdoors.

This session is staffed with well-qualified and experienced adults who provide challenging, safe, and fun opportunities to each camper that are adapted to meet individuals' needs and are designed to help them grow, be creative, and have fun.

Exciting and enriching activities include games, swimming, canoeing, fishing, hiking, crafts, outdoor cooking and skills, horseback riding, singing, all-camp final campfire, and wish boats. All-camp special events are held daily, including a carnival, theme parties, and a dance.

If you want to experience a week that you will never forget, plan to be a counselor at the EG session at Camp Tik-A-Witha July 13-19. Volunteers must be 16 years old.

For more information, contact Beth at egcamper@gmail.com or call 904-375-8583.

Donations Needed

Most Agencies:

Sometimes we forget that nonprofits spend a great deal of money on necessities at their facilities. These necessities include cleaning supplies, paper products, and office supplies. As you go about your shopping, you may want to pick up some extras and donate them to an agency in Northeast Mississippi.

Here are some ideas of what you can purchase. These kinds of supplies could be used by a variety of agencies:
- paper towels
- toilet paper
- disinfecting wipes
- soap
- brooms
- dust pans
- mops
- furniture polish
- dust cloths
- trash bags
- all-purpose cleaners
- dishwashing liquid
- dish towels
- tape
- staples
- copy paper
- paper clips
- note pads
- pens and pencils
- light bulbs

Shelters:

Shelters are in need of all of the above plus some extra items:
- sheets (usually for twin beds)
- towels
- detergent
- dryer sheets
- children's pajamas
- toothbrushes
- toothpaste
- shampoo
- feminine products
- lotion
- razors
- nail clippers
- hairbrushes
- combs
- hair ties
- deodorant
- lip balm

Food Pantries:

Another thought regarding donations - this time for food pantries. If you are thinking of donating food, remember that a food pantry can purchase items from a food bank for a much cheaper price than the rest of us can get at a retail store. They can make $10 go much farther than we can. So rather than donate food, you may want to donate money instead. More bang for the buck!

And Don't Forget Animal Shelters:

- Purina Kitten Chow
- Purina Puppy Chow
- bleach
- laundry detergent
heating pads
- canned pet food (all types)
- KONG dog toys (all sizes - classic version) and peanut butter or Kong Stuff’N

https://www.kongcompany.com/
- cat & dog food
- cat & dog toys
- cat litter and small litter pans
- collars and leashes
- metal pet food bowls
- monetary donations for medical treatment of animals
- gift cards from any local retailer or amazon.com for office supplies, pet supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.
- fleece blankets
