Victory for farm animal welfare and plant-based nutrition in Boston!
Dear Friend,
It has been almost two months since the Good Food Purchasing Program (GFPP) ordinance went into effect! The law was passed unanimously by Boston City Council in March. This ordinance promotes higher farm animal welfare standards and more plant-based nutrition in city purchases.
All animals deserve humane treatment, including animals raised for food. By adopting the GFPP framework, Boston has committed to using its purchasing power to source healthy, high-quality food that supports a strong local economy, fair treatment for food system workers, more humane treatment of animals, and environmental sustainability.
The Good Food Purchasing Program will help ensure that public funds are spent in a manner consistent with the social and environmental values of Boston residents. Thank you to everyone who called their city councilors to urge their support for the program!
