Kia ora koutou

Thank you to all those who donated a gold coin to our pink shirt day for mental health.  We raised $599.70.!!!! Thank you for your support.

It has come to my attention that many children are playing down at the school after hours and in the weekend without adult supervision.  Please be aware that we have had reports of groups of older children behaving in ways that are not ideal. We would like to encourage you to supervise your children down at school while they are playing down here.  We love families using the grounds to enjoy the fields, playground and courts and would love to continue to support this. Thank you for your support.

Are you interested in being on the next Board of Trustees?  Nomination forms are being sent out this week. Still not sure?  There is a meeting here at school on Monday at 7pm for all those interested. There will be a NZ School Trustees Association representative at the meeting and also some GSS BOT members that you can speak with.  See you there.

This event is open to ANY Year 3-6 students who would like to compete.

Teacher Strike
The nationwide teacher strike (including both primary and secondary schools) is planned for Wednesday 29 May. Please be aware that school will be closed on this day as a significant number of teachers are union members.  Teachers are striking because of the terrible state that the education system is in. Many schools are short of teachers and it is getting harder for some areas to recruit staff.  This is due to both pay and conditions. Thank you for supporting our teachers during this time.
Please see the flyer below for childcare on this day.

Welcome to Liam and Alden in Mahy, Aliyah in Blake and Tiana in Hillary

GSS Community Calendar
We have a new calendar for parents to access to see what is happening in the school. We will still have the dates in the newsletter for a while but feel free to go on to the website and have a look.

Playhouse is touring the play "The Tortoise and the Hare" across New Zealand and Australia. As well as being a laugh-a-minute comedy, this play will challenge the students to think about diversity, kindness, and how to be a real winner.
