Planetary Emergency Is Part of Our Practice
As the tsunami of daily news about our dying world crashes through denial, we find ourselves facing into a radical new curriculum. Going forward, it is becoming clear that business as usual is not an option. Instead profound change is already happening, within all levels of our being while impacting our lives, within society, and soon at all levels of human endeavor ending the false dichotomy between the personal, political, and collective.
One Earth Sangha’s Wesak Awakening to Climate Emergency Webinar and the local DCEN events in San Francisco, New York and Napa Valley are just part of the unstoppable momentum unleashed over the last months that represents a profound shift within minds and hearts around the globe.

To rise up against entrenched forces of colossal destruction is an enormous undertaking, an extraordinary task that each one of us is here to meet. We are where we are meant to be. Our Dharma practice has been the preparation for these times. This is when we need to draw together, to collaborate, and to use the wealth of the Buddha’s lineage to guide us through.

Individually our actions may seem small but like a single vote in an election, a single step on a long journey, together we are powerful. The events of next weekend, the 18th May full moon of Wesak, can contribute to that journey. We create momentum by staying connected, by pulling together, and by generating a sustaining refuge, a clear focus, and pathways of action.

DCEN Going Forward
Together with the DCEN leadership team, One Earth Sangha is offering to support the momentum to Declare Climate Emergency Now by establishing a platform for monthly calls to build connections and collaborate on strategies.
We suggest this be a collective effort, and not dependent on one leader or facilitator. We propose a shared responsibility for hosting each month’s meeting, perhaps beginning with DCEN co-sponsoring Sanghas. We will support a diversity of leaders in a process for rotating responsibilities and generating valuable collaboration that is responsive to community needs.
