Ask Congress to increase funds for mentoring

Congress has started the appropriations process for federal programs including the OJJDP Youth Mentoring Grant. In March, the White House released its budget request for Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) suggesting a $37 million cut to this critical program. In the coming months, Congress will release its own recommendations for the Youth Mentoring Grant and we hope they use their power to increase funds for this program that makes an impact on so many young people.

The Grant is currently funded at $95 million, the mentoring movement is asking Congress to increase these funds to $120 million. You can make a difference by calling on your Members of Congress to close the mentoring gap in America today.

Write the Letter of Inquiry: A Step in the Right Direction

The LOI gives the funder a thumbnail sketch of your organization, the need you are addressing, and a description of your project plan. 2019 State of Grantseeking Report

The primary goal of this annual State of Grantseeking survey is to help you understand and utilize the recent trends in grantseeking to grow your organization. Sources of grant funding are examined through a variety of lenses, providing you with benchmarks reflective of the most current grantseeking and grant giving landscape.

So how can this report help your organization find the funding it needs?
  • Compare your grantseeking results to other organizations with similar budgets, service areas, or missions.
  • Look at funding rates by the largest source of total awards or the largest individual award for your organization’s type.
  • Are you applying to the funding sources that other, similar organizations have reported success with?
  • How do your results compare to those of your peers?
  • Are your future grant award expectations in line with current projections?
