May 2019

Greetings ICTC members,

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and last week on May 15th, ICTC partners traveled to Springfield to support the proclamation for the state of Illinois as Trauma-Informed Awareness Day co-sponsored by Senator Julie Morrison. Trauma-Informed Awareness Day calls upon the State of Illinois to: 1) make policy decisions that take into account early childhood brain development and the concepts of toxic stress, early adversity, and buffering relationships, and 2) officers, agencies, and employees of the State of Illinois whose responsibilities impact children and adults should learn about ACEs, toxic stress, and structural violence, as well as about trauma-informed care practices that promote healing and resiliency.

We are excited about the state's recognition of the importance of trauma-informed care, and thrilled to see so many ICTC partners supporting this inaugural event. To read the proclamation signed by Governor JB Pritzker, please click HERE

The next ICTC Quarterly Meeting will be held Thursday, September 12th, 2019 from 12:30-2:30 PM at Lurie Children's Hospital, 11th FL Conference Center. For registration and meeting details, please visit us HERE. For those who can't make it in person, we'll be streaming the meeting via Skype for Business. Contact Angie at ictc@luriechildrens.org for more details.
Please CLICK HERE to read the latest on "Public Charge" policies from the ICTC Refugee and Immigrant committee. “PUBLIC CHARGE” is a term used by U.S. immigration officials to refer to a person who is considered primarily dependent on the government for subsistence, as demonstrated by either receipt of public cash assistance for income maintenance or institutionalization for long-term care at government expense. Where this consideration applies, an immigrant who is found to be “likely . . . to become a public charge” may be denied admission to the U.S. or lawful permanent resident status.

ICOY is excited to announce a series of trainings we will be offering to Chicago providers on trauma and mental health during the months of May and June. ICOY is able to provide these trainings free of charge to participants thanks to our work with the Chicago Local Area Network Coalition, a group of organizations working to reduce violence on Chicago's south side.

These trainings are open to any individual working with youth on the Chicago's South Side (including social service providers, law-enforcement, teachers, etc.)  Each training has a maximum of 25 participants. Provided there is room, we will open trainings to those working with youth elsewhere in the Chicagoland area the week before the training event.
Please contact Jackie Garlock with questions.
The ILAIMH is hosting its annual Spring Seminar Series across the state with workshops from April through September. See the attached flyer or visit www.ilaimh.org for more information and to register.

About the 2019 Pediatric Webinar Series

A collaboration between Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition (a division of Coalition for Compassionate Care of California), Pennsylvania's Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition (PPCC) and Greater Illinois Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition (GIPPCC), the 2019 Pediatric Webinar Series was created to raise the visibility of pediatric palliative care in the United States and to build clinicians' competencies and confidence in providing care to children.

Pediatric Palliative Care Coalitions are dedicated to advancing access to quality pediatric palliative care and bereavement support through education, advocacy, research and support.  Statewide PPCC's represent hospital systems, home health and hospice agencies, community organizations, government leaders and families in a commitment to optimize the quality of life for every child living with a life-threatening illness.
