What's In Bloom

Gamble Garden's iconic irises are in bloom! The iris was Miss Gamble's favorite flower and at one time she had 300 varieties in her garden. Gamble's historic iris collection, located in the cutting garden, features Dykes Medal winners from 1928-1969. Also at Gamble is the blue 'Elizabeth Gamble' iris, hybridized in 1994 by Miss Gamble's friend Lois O'Brien in her honor.

Photo tip: location, location, location

"Location, location, location" is an old adage in real estate and advertising. Turns out, it's true for photographers as well. While photographers can make magic anywhere, choosing the perfect spot — and knowing how to make the most of its creative possibilities— makes it that much easier to nail the perfect shot. Photographer Danya Chen recommends getting familiar with your chosen spot before shooting. For professional photographers, that means going on location before the client arrives. She says, "Find the prettiest spots with the best lighting. Bonus points if you have a sun tracking app!".
