WILL YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? SERMON SERIES– Sunday we continue learning about our neighbors, how to be a good neighbor and how Christ calls us to this. We are glad you are joining us for this sermon series of walking with the disciples as they learn to neighbor and call people to be neighbors in return.
“Every human being has value. This is the basis of all healthy relationships. Through living each day as it is given to me, I’ve learned that. It cannot be “taught” but it can be “caught” from those who live their lives right along with us. What a privilege to be able to look for the good in our neighbor!”– Fred Rogers
CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL– Sunday is our last day of Sunday School until fall. It has been such an amazing experience teaching these sweet, smart and fun little kiddos. Jen and Brenda are looking forward to more Adventures With God in September. We would like to encourage all our families to take the summer to worship together as a family. There are kid’s activity packets located in the back of the sanctuary. The usher can help you located them. Thank you for encouraging your kids to learn and grow with us.
SHILOH 101– will be held
Sunday at 11:30 am. It is an exploration of our church and our faith meant for everyone. Come join Pastor Tyler for coffee and conversation!
FAITH & FILM–Faith & Film will be
Queen of Katwe.Living in the slum of Katwe in Kampala, Uganda, is a constant struggle for 10-year old Phiona and her family. Her world changes one day when she meets Robert Katende, a missionary who teaches children how to play chess. This film is based on a true story. Please join us
Sunday at 5:30 pm for this inspirational feel good movie. Ask a friend or two and bring a snack if you want to.
THANK YOUS-Please join us Sunday after each service for cake and ice cream and say thank you to Dave Merkel and Judy Frank for all their work with the choir and chime choir. Sunday is the last day for the choir to sing until the fall. If you know of anyone who plays an instrument or likes to sing and would like to bring their talents to church this summer, please talk to either Dave or Judy.
GIVING STATEMENTS-In order to save printing and postage costs, the Finance Committee has decided to email statements for the period ended April 30, 2019. The next statement you receive will be end-of-year which will be mailed to everyone. If you would also like a paper copy of any of your statements, please contact Cindy King. Thank you.
MEMORIAL WEEKEND WORSHIP-On
Sunday, May 26there will be only
one service at 9:00 am. This is a chance for both services to worship together and to get to know the people who go to a different service then you do. Adult Bible study will be at 8:00 am.
“TO MARS AND BEYOND” VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS)- We are holding VBS with First UMC. The dates are
June 24 -27 from 9:00 am-Noon. Early registration (by May 21): $20.00 per child. Late registration (after May 21): $25.00 per child. There are 2 registration forms on the stand in the lobby (one for children and one for volunteers).
Scholarships are available if needed.Transportation will be available from Shiloh UMCto First UMC on the days of VBS. Please sign up early to reserve your spot.
LAWN MOWING HELPERS NEEDED–Along with gardens comes the grass. There is a sign-up sheet in the lobby on the table marked “Volunteer for Shiloh.” Please help out this summer by signing up to mow once or twice. It takes about 4 hours and training is available.
FREE STORE– We continue to be very busy at the Free Store. On May 4, 80 families shopped with us, of which 19 were first time shoppers. Assuming there are at least two people per family (a conservative assumption), 160 people were in our shopping area during 2½ hours we were open for shopping (10am to 12:30pm). Needless to say, many of the items you donated filled needs of our community! An additional bonus for the shoppers is the free hot meal served in the basement. Without the donated items, this 8
thyear of the Free Store would not be happening! Thank you! Also thank-you to the many volunteers whose loyalty and commitment is so appreciated and so needed.
THANK YOU-A big thank you to all the Trustees for all the work they have done and are continuing to do on the shed. The Trustees are: Ed Heidrich(Chair)- Kent Thompson (Vice Chair), Toby Stapleton, Chris Munson, and Buddy Kastrop. Many thanks to Mark Sullivan whose help has been invaluable. Thanks to everyone who helped with Clean-up Saturday.
BEING GOOD STEWARDS– We are recycling all we can! We also have a mulching bin for the gardens. We have noticed a lot of plastic water bottles in the recycle bins. The Trustees will be upgrading the water cooler to a bottle filling station. We are working on ideas for making the best use of this new resource. We will no longer provide bottled water in the refrigerator. If you know someone who needs a used water fountain, please contact the office.
