Did you know the Gospel of Luke has a second volume?  The book of Acts is written by the same author, we know this based on the writing style and also the way the book is addressed in the beginning to someone named, Theophilus.  Right now as we study Acts in worship, taking some time to study is prequel is timely.

This year I am challenging our congregation to read the Gospel of Luke. In future years I will challenge us to read the other gospels together.  Reading the entirety of the books, helps us to know who Jesus can be in our lives and to know better the stories we are called to live by.  To help us do this. I would encourage you to read the chapters of Luke in the following progression.

February  1-3
March  4-6
April 7-9
May 10-11
June-July 12-16
August 17-19
September 20-21
October 22-23
November 24
December (Read something else in scripture)

As Pentecost approaches, I always feel a reconnection to the gospel stories as we consider our call to neighbor others.  Chapters 10-11 share a message of Jesus’ sending out 72 disciples to share the message of Christ, to heal, and to bring hope to others.  It also holds in it the Lord’s prayer, how to pray, and how to lift others up.  The Good Samaritan story is the principle parable in these chapters, and a reminder of our duty as Christians to cross boundaries and help others.  We are called in these chapters to live the Jesus’ following life with courage.  Courage is wholehearted living, and I believe that is what we see in these chapters of Luke.

I encourage you to pick up your Bible and begin reading Luke this month, let’s see how reading together draws us closer to each other and to God.

Enthusiastic Peace,
Pastor Tyler #loveBillings

This Spring we will be entering a time of learning about our neighbors. How to be a good neighbor, and how Christ calls us to this.  We hope you will join us for this sermon series of walking with the disciples as they learn to neighbor and call people to be neighbors in return.

“Every human being has value. This is the basis of all healthy relationships. Through living each day as it is given to me, I’ve learned that. It cannot be “taught,” but it can be “caught” from those who live their lives right along with us. What a privilege to be able to look for the good in our neighbor!”- Fred Rogers

The community garden is prepared and ready for planting.  Please contact Buddy Kastrop if you are interested in helping with the community garden this summer.  buddy@kastrops.com

If you want to reserve your own garden box, contact the office.  Cost is $50 a box.
Sheds are for storage.  This may be true, but our shed is being built for more.  It will also store United Methodist Committee On Relief kits that are used to support disaster relief worldwide.  Thanks to our trustees for working on this project.  To date over $3,000 has come from outside our church to support this project.  If you want to learn more about how to support this work talk to one of our Trustees: Ed Heidrich, Buddy Kastrop, Kent Thompsons, Chris Munson, or Toby Stapleton.  To date we have the foundation poured and the walls will start going up soon.

Special thanks to the concrete team led by Mark Sullivan.

CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL– Sunday is our last day of Sunday School until fall.  It has been such an amazing experience teaching these sweet, smart and fun little kiddos.  Jen and Brenda are looking forward to more Adventures With God in September.  We would like to encourage all our families to take the summer to worship together as a family.  There are kid’s activity packets located in the back of the sanctuary.  The usher can help you located them.  Thank you for encouraging your kids to learn and grow with us.

SHILOH 101– will be held Sunday at 11:30 am.  It is an exploration of our church and our faith meant for everyone. Come join Pastor Tyler for coffee and conversation!

Sunday is the last day for the choir to sing until the fall.  If you know of anyone who plays an instrument or likes to sing and would like to bring their talents to church this summer, please talk to either Dave or Judy.

GIVING STATEMENTS-In order to save printing and postage costs, the Finance Committee has decided to email statements for the period ended April 30, 2019. The next statement you receive will be end-of-year which will be mailed to everyone.  If you would also like a paper copy of any of your statements, please contact Cindy King. Thank you.

“TO MARS AND BEYOND” VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS)We are holding VBS with First UMC. The dates are June 24 -27 from 9:00 am-Noon.  Early registration (by May 21): $20.00 per child. Late registration (after May 21): $25.00 per child.  There are 2 registration forms on the stand in the lobby (one for children and one for volunteers). Scholarships are available if needed.Transportation will be available from Shiloh UMCto First UMC on the days of VBS.  Please sign up early to reserve your spot.

LAWN MOWING HELPERS NEEDEDAlong with gardens comes the grass. There is a sign-up sheet in the lobby on the table marked “Volunteer for Shiloh.”  Please help out this summer by signing up to mow once or twice. It takes about 4 hours and training is available.

FREE STORE– We continue to be very busy at the Free Store.  On May 4, 80 families shopped with us, of which 19 were first time shoppers.  Assuming there are at least two people per family (a conservative assumption), 160 people were in our shopping area during 2½ hours we were open for shopping (10am to 12:30pm).  Needless to say, many of the items you donated filled needs of our community! An additional bonus for the shoppers is the free hot meal served in the basement.  Without the donated items, this 8thyear of the Free Store would not be happening!  Thank you! Also thank-you to the many volunteers whose loyalty and commitment is so appreciated and so needed.

THANK YOU-A big thank you to all the Trustees for all the work they have done and are continuing to do on the shed. The Trustees are: Ed Heidrich(Chair)- Kent Thompson (Vice Chair), Toby Stapleton, Chris Munson, and Buddy Kastrop. Many thanks to Mark Sullivan whose help has been invaluable. Thanks to everyone who helped with Clean-up Saturday.

BEING GOOD STEWARDS– We are recycling all we can! We also have a mulching bin for the gardens. We have noticed a lot of plastic water bottles in the recycle bins. The Trustees will be upgrading the water cooler to a bottle filling station.  We are working on ideas for making the best use of this new resource. We will no longer provide bottled water in the refrigerator. If you know someone who needs a used water fountain, please contact the office.

If you appreciate what Shiloh does, please consider giving to us financially.  You can give online at http://www.shilohbillings.church/give/  Thank you for supporting our work.
