Shift Of Shenzhen’s Development From Imitation To Independent Innovation  

The first two decades of Shenzhen’s development are characterized by comparative advantages, i.e., cheap labor and development of labor-intensive industries.

The next two decades of Shenzhen’s development are defined by its efforts to learn from and imitate advanced economies. By learning and imitation, Shenzhen was able to acquire knowledge at a rather low cost and take shortcuts to speed up its development. The collision between the knowledge stocks of different economies can lead to spillover effect and that opening-up will enable a developing country to attract knowledge flow from developed countries. China-India Cooperation On Biotech And Pharmaceutical Industries  

China has become the third largest pharmaceutical market worldwide and gained strong research capabilities in gene testing, cell therapy, and bio-pharmacy. Nevertheless, excessive regulatory control and dilatory approval procedures have hindered the innovative technology transfer and industrialization.

Reputed as the “pharmacy of the world”, India is the world’s biggest exporter of generic drugs and vaccines. Tailoring policies related to intellectual property, price control and foreign direct investment to the need of its pharmaceutical and biotech industries, India has established a sophisticated innovation system. Consulate General Of New Zealand In Guangzhou Delegation Visits CDI  

On May 10, Consulate General of New Zealand in Guangzhou Delegation visited CDI and discussed the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. CDI experts, led by Dr. Guo Wanda, Executive Vice President, explained geographical construct, intercity cooperation and vision of the Greater Bay Area, as well as its supportive role in Belt and Road Initiative.

Delegation Of Indian Senior Diplomats Visits CDI  

On May 6, Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Ms. Ruchira Kamboj, Indian Ambassador to Russia Mr. D. B. Venkatesh Varma, Joint Secretary Eurasian Division of Ministry of External Affairs of India Mr. Manish Prabhat, Indian Consul General of Guangzhou Mr. Sujit Ghosh visited CDI. Dr. Guo Wanda, Executive Vice President of CDI, introduced visions of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Discussion focused on Shenzhen’s experience of transformation into China’s top high-tech center, Sino-US trade’s influence on Shenzhen, as well as government measures that took place to facilitate start-ups in Shenzhen.

Belt, Road & Bridge: Creating New China-Europe Connections  

The China Development Institute and Z/Yen Group are holding a major conference in London on 1 May 2019, followed by a conference dinner.

The conference, “Belt, Road & Bridge: Creating New China-Europe Connections” will explore current developments in finance and trade of interest to both China and Europe, identify opportunities for increased economic co-operation between businesses and municipal governments in China and Europe, and provide opportunities for connecting senior finance and trade professionals from China and Europe.
