NYLA Travel Grants: Applications Available Now! CCLS is offering 13 grants of up to $500 each to attend the 2019 NYLA conference in Saratoga Springs. Applications will be due on May 31, 2019. We have moved the application process to May in order to allow all members to take advantage of the early bird registration. We recommend that you book your hotel early, especially if you want to be in the conference hotel. Hotels fill up quickly.

Consumer Reports and Koha
Many of us have noticed that searching for an issue of Consumer reports in Koha is a v-e-r-y s-l-o-w process, indeed.
The problem is that there were so many items attached to the Consumer reports MARC record (700+!) that searching for it slowed Koha to a crawl for everyone logged in.
Carolyn and Chris looked for a good solution that will allow us to search for CR without slowing Koha or confusing everyone. We decided to divide the MARC record into 3 separate records, by the dates of the issues attached to them. Consumer Reports 2019 contains only 2019 issues. Please add your new issues here.
Consumer reports 2017-2018 is under construction, but will be limited to those years (and possibly 2016).
Please do not add any more issues to the undated Consumer Reports record. We are working to sort the items currently attached to this record, and make sure that they move, if necessary, to the place where they belong.
We plan to keep the number of attached items to 300 or fewer, and will adjust the included dates if needed.
It is probably not necessary to keep back issues of Consumer reports more than 6 years.
Adult Literacy Grant Opportunity
New one-on-one Tutoring Opportunity!
For the first time, CCLS is working with Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County (LVCC) to find community members interested in becoming a tutor. No experience is necessary, LVCC provides tutor training for free!
Thanks to the CCLS Adult Literacy Grant, literacy tutors from Cattaraugus Community Action, Inc. are available to work with patrons who are in need of tutoring in adult literacy all types.

Rachel is the coordinator of early childhood services at Brooklyn Public Library and a columnist with School Library Journal. She will be presenting 2 workshops: Recipes for Play: Developmentally Appropriate Play Activities for Babies & Toddlers and STEM in Storytime. These promise to be fun, interactive workshops with many practical tips for using everyday items to enhance your storytimes. Each member library attending will go home with something to begin putting what was learned to use. Stipends for attending are available. Lunch is provided.
