"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid." John 14:27. Image: Jesus saying farewell to his eleven remaining disciples, from the Maesta by Duccio, 1308–1311.
Summer break is fast approaching, which means summer camps will begin soon. Though many of our own Resurrection kids might have outgrown traditional bible school programs, they certainly are not too old to volunteer or to invite family, friends and neighbors. Our programs are intended for the whole Greenwood community. So pick up some flyers from the Gathering Space and spread the news about these great events: > Melissa Sizemore Week of Faith and Arts, June 24 – 28: This is a musical and visual arts camp, fitting those creative expressions into our lives as disciples. It is a free morning camp hosted by Immanuel Lutheran Church. > Camp Kanuga Day Camp, July 15 – 19: Resurrection hosts Kanuga counselors for a week-long program of traditional camp activities, games, recreation and crafts. Several of the youngsters in our congregation will tell you, it is a blast! The cost is presented in a range of levels, $225 to $0, at the camper’s choice. > Peaceable Kingdom VBS, July 29 – August 2: Resurrection is joining with Immanuel Lutheran to offer this anti-bullying bible school program based upon many of Dr. Seuss’ storybook treasures, as well as the familiar lines of Isaiah 11:1-9. Through reading, singing, crafts and games, we hope to impart many practical tools to help children with compassion, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Volunteers are in great need for this camp -- please sign up on sheet in the Gathering Space or email elizabeth@episcopalgreenwood.org.
Some other important items to note:
Holy Baptism: On the Day of Pentecost, June 9, we will again be renewing our Baptismal vows. If there are any candidates for Holy Baptism, call or email the church office as soon as possible: 223-5426 or cor@episcopalgreenwood.org. The Day of Pentecost is not that far off, and we want all candidates to be well prepared!
Forward in Faith ... and Hope! Our Inquirers / Confirmation program for adults and youth continues today at 9:30 AM in Emmaus Hall. Father Bolle and Chuck McDonnell are leading an exploration about faith, church, Christianity and the Episcopal tradition. This program will continue until Sunday, June 16.
Confirmation will take place on June 30 with Bishop Waldo’s visit. We will combine our worship services that morning at 10:30 AM. Bishop Waldo also will hold an adult forum at 9:30 AM in Emmaus Hall.
It is not too early to seek sponsors for our Thanksgiving Day Race to be Thankful. We could use an enthusiastic, charismatic and possibly well-connected person to help obtain sponsors from area businesses and companies. If this sounds like you and you are willing to help, please contact Kim Russell at kimjer100@gmail.com or 344-8009. Compensation includes a free t shirt and a great amount of appreciation.
