Renewing Democracy, an initiative of the Solutions Journalism Network, was launched in May 2018 to encourage reporting about how people and institutions are attempting to reinvigorate democracy in communities across the country. Solutions Journalism Network will provide more than 100 grants through 2020 to reporters and news organizations to support stories, projects and collaborations that examine how communities are responding to problems such as voter suppression, the opioid crisis, criminal justice reform and disinformation. INN Days Peer Group Meetups

Share ideas and problem solve with similar organizations or job title holders during INN Days Peer Group Meetups on Thursday, June 13. This will be a time at INN Days to gather new or established small groups to meet each other and discuss topics of interest, such as statehouse reporting, rural newsrooms, major gifts and Emerging Leaders. If you have a peer group you'd like to start, email info@inn.org.

INN Days 2019 is Just Weeks Away

INN Days, the largest nonprofit news conference of the year, is only a few weeks away. This event is open to anyone interested in advancing the field of nonprofit news.

The full agenda is now available and includes two days of sessions. This is the first time the event will be held at its own hotel. The conference will be held at The Four Seasons Houston on June 12 and 13, two blocks from the IRE hotel, at a special room rate of $175 per night. The INN room block for June 11 is sold out at $175 per night and the current rate is now $379 per night. Limited rooms for June 12 and June 13 at the special rate are left, so book soon as they are likely to sell out. Book your hotel room now by visiting the "hotel" tab on the INN Days page.

INN Days 2019 is generously sponsored by the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation and John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as well as a generous circle of foundations providing general support for INN programs.

INN Days 2019 will include NewsMatch Day sponsored by Knight Foundation, plus peer group meetups and other networking opportunities. This year's conference features sessions focused on major gifts fundraising, local news collaborations and building an effective sponsorship sales campaign.

InsideClimate News published a collaborative package yesterday entitled Middle America’s Low-Hanging Carbon: The search for greenhouse gas cuts from the grid, agriculture and transportation. The Better Government Association (BGA) and Bridge Magazine, both members of INN/Amplify, participated, as well as other news organizations, including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Wisconsin State Journal, The Star Tribune (Minneapolis), WVIZ/WCPN Cleveland and more. The goal is to give readers local and regional perspectives on climate change solutions and the obstacles that stand in the way.

Impact: After the state worker safety agency’s failings have been exposed by the federal government in an investigation by the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, Kentucky state officials are now paying attention.
