1: Students singing the national anthem for a dystopian society they created as part of a project for British Literature class
Students in Dr. Hoag's British Literature course are in the process of reading Aldous Huxley's classic, Brave New World. In order to dig deeper into the themes of the book, students were tasked with creating their own dystopian societies and presenting their societies to the class.
2: Jordy Chowaiki teaching fellow students about the mitzvot of Peah and Leket
As part of their final project, students in Rabbi Loffman's Chumash class prepared detailed presentations about various mitzvot and their underlying meaning.
3: "70 Years in 240 Pictures"
As part of our Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrations, Rabbi Simon and his wife prepared and installed this mural of pictures in our school lobby. The mural includes 240 photos starting with a photo of David Ben Gurion declaring Israel's statehood in 1948 and ending with one of our SCY High alums voting in the most recent Israeli election. In between are 238 photos spanning 71 years of history - everything from the Eichmann trial to the Eurovision victory. From ration lines to wars, to presidents and pop stars, to terror, to Oslo, to draining swamps, to kidnappings, to weddings and bar mitzvahs, to assassinations, to universities, to Birthright, to Aliyot from FSU, Ethiopia, France, and the US, to landing on the moon, and hundreds of other moments in between. Wow!
4: Zohar Soncino manning the grill at a recent school-wide BBQ
As a reward for breaking our raffle ticket sales record, Rabbi Simon treated the entire student body to a real Texas BBQ with his signature overnight brisket. Delicious!
