Drawing and Painting Trees in the Carver Woodlands for Beginners (Ages 13+)

In this Plein Air Painting Workshop, participants will enjoy the outdoors while learning to depict the landscape’s trees similar to that of George Washington Carver’s artwork. Retired Missouri Southern State University professor, Dr. Carolyn M. Hale, will be leading the class and all materials will be provided. It is recommended that you bring a water bottle, hat, and bug spray, if needed. Participants should attend the entire session. In case of rain, the class will be held inside the visitor center. National “Kids To Park” Day

Enjoy a guided nature walk near George Washington Carver National Monument with the Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center staff. Vino & Van Gogh is a monthly painting event where the artists of Local Color Art Gallery & Studio offer step-by-step instruction on how to paint a masterpiece. In this class, you will paint your very own version of an impressionist painting. No experience is necessary. Many homeowners are discovering the benefits of landscaping with native plants. Plants that are naturally adapted to their surroundings tend to be less dependent on pesticides and watering hoses, and they provide better habitat for butterflies, songbirds, and other local wildlife. In addition to buying plants, people can also get information on how to incorporate various types of native plants into their landscaping plans and how these plants can attract and benefit wildlife such as butterflies and birds.
