MAC in a Moment

May 22, 2019
Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.
This quote (often attributed to Winston Churchill) energized the MAC Board of Directors during its May planning retreat. We hope it inspires you to pursue some summer learning about Assessment Literacy.

MAC Learning Moments
The MAC has an extensive library of Learning Moments, which are short (2-4 minute) video clips that feature Assessment Learning Network (ALN) presenters answering single-topic questions related to their presentations. Learning Moments provide great learning opportunities for busy educators who have just a few moments to spare. They also are easy to share with co-workers, policy-makers, or families. Embed them in presentations, blogs, newsletters, or emails.

Learning Moment videos are available in the ALN Resources. Just apply the filter “Video/Short Clips” and explore the topics and presenters that interest you most. Here are a few Learning Moments on assessment literacy to get you started:

Assessment Literacy Self-Assessment for Educators
Are you (or is someone you know) interested in doing self-assessment on your level of assessment literacy? The MAC’s set of Assessment Literacy Self-Assessment tools are based on Michigan’s Assessment Literacy Standards, which provide a common framework to assist K-12 educators, students, families, and policy-makers in becoming more knowledgeable about assessment purposes and uses. The standards are intended for long-term use in the field of education, to continually support assessment literate educators.

Targeted self-assessments are available on Assessment Literacy Standards web page for the following groups: Created by the MAC Resource Development Committee, the self-assessments are a good place to start when determining next steps in designing learning plans for improvement.
