May 2019 MSP Audio Geeks meetup

Monday, May 20, 2019

The May MSP Audio Geeks meetup is tomorrow, Monday, May 20th, from 7-9pm at HDMG. Thanks to sound designer Ben O'Brien for hosting us! Nathan Lively of Sound Design Live will be putting on a presentation about sound system tuning.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could see sound? But wait, we can, with an audio analyzer. Nathan will demo some basic sound system optimization processes using a two channel audio analyzer (like Smaart) and we’ll discuss what is and isn’t possible through measurement.

We'll have a couple speakers to demo. You are also welcome to bring your speakers, audio analyzer, or even a musical instrument for us to play with.

Audio Society of MN Meeting

Tuesday, May 21, 2019

On Tuesday, May 21st, the Audio Society of MN will host its monthly meeting.

From the website:
On May 21st, we close out our season with the highly anticipated visit by Dr. Douglas Stauffer, principal at Wild Burro Audio, based locally here in Minneapolis.

Wild Burro is a developer of boutique full range drivers and have been building budget friendly open baffle speakers for more than a decade. Most recently, there is a new alnico magnet based 8” full range speaker designed for open baffle use. Dr. Doug will present some considerations to take into account with such things, and then showcase two different speaker builds, including a bass assisted, active analog crossover system using an amp-camp amp for power and a Reso enclosure system.

You don’t want to miss this!  Please join us at the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting in Saint Louis Park for this discussion.

Thank you everyone, for arriving close to 7 PM, it is helping the workload on the people who come into the Pavek to open up for us.  Thank you.

Attendance is free for all. The presentation begins at 7:00 PM and as always they encourage you to join at 6:30 for more casual conversation.

Refreshments are served; guests, visitors, and new members are welcome to attend.

Join: Individuals may join the ASM at any time by paying the annual dues of $25 at any meeting. Club dues for those who join after our December break are just $15.
