The Highgate Watercolour Group will, as usual, have their colourful Fair stand in front of 10a. We welcome all visitors who would like to learn more about the Group and perhaps even be considered for membership. There will be some very reasonably priced original paintings for sale, as well as cards, some of which are gorgeous miniature original watercolours, others printed. We make a point of offering local views as well as more general subjects. We look forward to seeing you there.
Friends of Highgate Wood Roman Kiln
A coalition of local enthusiasts, museums and The City of London Corporation is bidding for lottery funding (with matching private donations) to restore to Highgate Wood the Roman kiln discovered there in the 1970s, currently languishing in the basement of Bruce Castle Museum. For more information see the group's facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/highgateromankiln.
Update on the CA-U CPZ Campaign:
The Highgate Society has received an update from Camden Council. The Council explains that the unusually high volume of responses (over 600) has taken time to review but they hope to make a decision over the Summer. We continue to press for a meeting and have expressed our serious concern that the Council views their proposed extension of CPZ hours as a done deal. The proposal ignores the requirements of the Highgate Neighbourhood Plan and runs counter to the many arguments we made during the Campaign. We will keep you updated. Nicola Caisley, Elspeth Clements, Bee Kwan and Andrew Sulston
Archway Bridge anti-suicide measures
The Highgate Society-supported scheme designed by David Richmond has been rejected by both Haringey and Islington Councils. To see the officers' reports click here (Haringey) and here (Islington).
