Hiya all
Welcome to this mid-May missive
Since I was last here I’ve been out-and-about on some good’n’interesting shows. Some have been solo but there have been others with Rod Clements and with Brooks Williams. There’ll be more collaborations with them and with others. See the Forthcoming Shows bit below.
In the meantime, here’s a thing that’s open and ongoing. The Glad Café, Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow has a Crowdfunder campaign underway to raise £40,000.00 to fix the roof. I, like many others, am very fond of The Glad and find it an essential Southside establishment. I have offered to play a House-concert to the highest bidder (limited to a Central Belt location) as my contribution to the Fundraiser. Bidding commenced here on May 13th at £200 on the Glad Facebook site https://www.facebook.com/thegladcafe/ and ends at 5pm on Friday May 31st. As it’s a kind of auction, which the Crowdfunder site isn’t set up to accommodate, the donation needs to be made direct to The Glad, by email to info@thegladcafe.co.uk and it’ll then make its way to the Fund.
The bidding now sits at £400.00. Do I hear £500 anyone?
I think it might be useful to give a bit more info on what such a House-concert entails.
For me, I bring everything I need, ie a small PA system and all things necessary for a show. The host provides a room and enough seating for guests/audience. The audience is usually made up of invited friends who make a contribution to the cost.
It often becomes a social event, with something to eat and drink. I play two sets, at about 45/50 minutes each. The food can happen prior to the performance, in the middle of the performance or at the end, whichever is preferred. I’m prepared to be around for the duration. The afternoons of weekend days can work really well and it can be good when youngsters are around. This is a pattern I’ve dealt with often and a good time is had by all, and, in this case, all for a good cause. For any who know my work, past and present, I’m always willing to try to acknowledge a request or two. If there’s a birthday or anniversary involved they can be celebrated, with hopefully inventive song inclusions.
All proceeds from this one will go to the Glad’s Crowdfunder campaign although to be clear, as it’s a kind of auction, which the Crowdfunder site isn’t set up to accommodate, the donation needs to be made direct to The Glad, by email to info@thegladcafe.co.uk and it’ll then make its way to the Fund. Go on, help The Glad, get your pals to help The Glad, let me help the Glad, and we can all have a fine old time in the process.
The Welcome to Anniversaryville release continues to gain supporters and, I’m glad to say, sales.

There are some interesting projects being planned for 2020 including some events around the 50th anniversary of my first LP ‘Do you see the lights?’ There’ll be more details in future webmails.
