Parent FAQs for Umoja Festival

Do we have to stay together as a class all day?
We created a zone schedule so families can enjoy the zone activities at their leisure.   We have the zones in place to ensure that students are always with an age appropriate group- we don't want little kids to have to play next to big kids and vice versa. If parents are chaperoning multiple Kuumba students who are siblings, the parents need to pick one homeroom group to stay with all day and keep all siblings together.

Can chaperones bring other children?
If a parent has a younger sibling (age 4 and under) who must attend in order for the parent to chaperone, may attend.   School age children who do not attend Kuumba are not able to attend this school event.

What if a parent wants to leave early?
If parents leave early, they MUST take their child with them.
Parents who need to leave the park early, should notify the child's teacher and sign out at the front check in table.  Parents will be able to leave the park at anytime if they came in a car as long as they sign out.  If parents came on the shuttle, they may leave on an earlier shuttle if there is space on the bus.

Can parents chaperone multiple Kuumba students?Yes, as long as the chaperone is designated on the Umoja Festival form.  Please have both the chaperoning parent and the non-chaperoning parent confirm the arrangement in writing.  They need to select one homeroom to say with for the day.

Do the students have to wear their umoja  shirts on the day of the event?
Yes, we intentionally ordered brightly colored shirts so students can easily be found at the park.  The students receive the shirt at the park so we do not run the risk of a shirt being lost or forgotten.  Staff will receive their T-Shirt the day before the event. If additional shirts are available, parents may purchase one for $10.

Do students need to bring additional money?
Students will be able to get lunch, a shirt, water ice and access to the moon bounce activities with their wrist bands.  Students who bring money will be able to purchase funnel cakes, popcorn and cotton candy at the event.

Will there be water for the students?
Yes, we have purchased enough water for each students to receive up to 2 small water bottles.  With the ability to refill them at the park from a cooler.

Will parent be able to purchase lunch?
Yes, parents can purchase lunch at a separate cost through the CEB at the pavilion the day of the event. Parent lunches are $4.00/
