Bearsted Woodland Trust is an award-winning Private charitable trust which is open daily throughout the year. It was saved from development in 2003 by the founder Trustees.

It now extends to 26 acres of parkland and is managed by more than 30 volunteers who carry out planting, maintenance and specialist work within a 3 year plan. They and others also prepare and distribute twice-yearly Newsletters to Friends of BWT, who now number more than 1300. The total hours put in by volunteers each year is more than 5000!

As well as Woodland walks and open parkland there is a play area provided by Bearsted Parish Council for younger children, and a children’s maze.

There are hundreds of native trees and maturing hedgerows providing wild life corridors. The site holds a top-marks Green Flag Community Award. It has eye-catching tree sculptures carved in a fallen Oak, and a horse head sculpture in Moore Meadow: in this area trees have been planted to commemorate Miss Pauline Moore who bequeathed 10 acres of her former Riding School to BWT.

BWT hosts many garden and field birds, including woodpeckers, thrushes, robins, blackbirds and the occasional flyover by kestrels, buzzards and, very rarely, red kites. 

The site is accessible via the Church Landway, near Holy Cross Church Car Park, and there are other entrances from Ashford Rd, Church Lane, Sutton Street and Roundwell.
