Notes, 2019-05-20.
On The Prepared's podcast, a full episode with GE Additive on their journey from the Morris Technologies days through Arcam/Concept Laser and to the present. I've written a lot about metal 3D printing, and from my earliest experiences GE's story - of how Greg Morris's job shop spent more than a decade figuring out how to reliably print jet engine parts out of cobalt chrome and other exotic materials - has always fascinated me. It was an absolute pleasure talking to Greg (and a bunch of other heavy hitters from the metal AM world) for this episode, and I'm really excited to be able to share it with you too.

The most clicked link in last week's issue (~16% of opens) was a takedown of Apple AirPods.

  • The RF spectrum being auctioned for 5G development could interfere with weather satellites' ability to measure water vapor in the atmosphere. Water vapor emits a signal at 23.8 GHz, and weather satellites monitor that frequency to estimate water content in the atmosphere. The FCC has already sold off the 24.25-24.45 GHz and 24.75-25.25 GHz bands, and FCC chairman Ajit Pai is, predictably, unfazed by claims that 5G noise might throw off hurricane prediction models, etc.
