Visiting Momiji with Minister Tassi

I was delighted to tour Momiji Health Care Society with Hon. Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors. One of the best examples of senior's care in the country!

Welcoming Canada’s Newest Citizens

I always enjoy the enthusiasm of Canada’s newest citizens. Delighted to welcome 119 Canadians from 32 nations! Thank you Judge Delmedico for another wonderful ceremony

Interfaith Commemoration at Cinnamon Banquet

Special thanks to the InterFaith team for organizing the commemoration of the lives lost in the Sri Lankan Attacks from terrorism this past month. A strong showing of interfaith solidarity at the Cinnamon Banquet and Convention center

The Association of Progressive Muslims' Iftar Dinner

Pleased to have participated in the Iftar Dinner hosted by Mobeen Khaja & The Association of Progressive Muslims. The intersection of faith and politics, while never easy is made better by the efforts of people like Mobeen & the Association

Meeting with Big Brothers Big Sisters

I enjoyed meeting with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS). Did you know that for every $1 that is invested in BBBS mentoring, there is a $18 return to society?

Meeting with Canadian Council of Churches

I recently had an interesting and intense discussion about healing poverty with The Canadian Council of Churches. It's good to take note of the progress that the Trudeau government has made in 3.5 years with the Child Tax Benefit, lifting nearly 300,000 children out of poverty, strengthening benefits for seniors, and the $40-billion investment in housing through the National Housing Strategy. It's important to continue charting a path forward

Celebrating
Asian Heritage Month

I was pleased to support Taiwan's aspirations to be apart of the WHO/ WHA & to celebrate the beauty of
Taiwanese culture at the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Scarborough.
"It is never good to jeopardize the health of the world's population over political disputes."

Science Rendezvous event at the Toronto Zoo

Brilliant idea to link two great Scarborough institutions - the University of Toronto Scarborough and the Toronto Zoo - for a collaborative event. A great day to be at the zoo with University of Toronto Scarborough Principle Wisdom Tettey, Toronto Zoo Chief Executive Officer Dolf DeJong, MP Gary Anandasangaree, and City Councillor Jennifer McKelvie

Catching up on my reading in the House

Patiently waiting for the Speaker to start House proceedings

Future Forum Conference

Pleased to participate in a fascinating discussion about the legislative process of Bill C-59, An Act Respecting National Security Matters with Phil Gurski from Borealis Threat and Risk Consulting and Christopher Parsons from Citizen Lab. Bill C-59 tries to accommodate concerns about privacy, security, accountability & transparency in an environment of hyper technological changes. Bill C-59 substantially revamps Canada's security architecture. As Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security, I was privileged to participate in the legislative process.

Uthayan International Awards Festival

Great example of community engagement from Logan Logendralingam of the Canada Uthayan newspaper as we celebrate the accomplishments of the Tamil community with the Uthayan International Awards Festival!

Community Living Bowling Event

Great event for Community Living at their 9th annual Bowling event & delighted to run into old friend Brad Duguid who’s looking like he’s enjoying retirement (a little too much)

Brandon Mubenga visits the Constituency Office

Great seeing Brandon Mubenga and his father recently when they stopped by the Constituency Office to say hi. Our office is always here to help with constituent issues.

Walk with Heart Event

Great morning with Diane Chadwick and Dr Joe Ricci at the annual Walk with Heart. The Central East regional cardiac rehab program is world class and one Scarborough’s hidden gems.

National Student Commonwealth Forum BBQ

Bright, engaging, and super keen. The students of the National Student Commonwealth Forum give us hope for the future of Canada!

Meeting with the International Justice Mission

Many thanks to the International Justice Mission for bringing Parliamentarians from Bolivia to meet and discuss my Modern Slavery Bill. The reality of supply chain slavery and the enslavement of girls and women is a national and international disgrace.

Interfaith Housing
Group Meeting

Fruitful conversation with Margie Carlson, the new Executive Director of Interfaith Housing group about the 40 year Shoniker building and its potential refurbishment needs. The living conditions of over 120 seniors could be improved through The National Housing Strategy.

Visit to Hindu Mandir Temple

Thank you to the Hindu Mandir Temple in Mississauga, for their warm welcome.

East Scarborough Boys & Girls Club Meeting

Absolute pleasure meeting Utcha Sawyer, the Director of the East Scarborough Boys & Girls club. The Boys & Girls club was a recipient of funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Roundtable with Minister Monsef

As we approach Filipino Heritage month, it was important to join Minister Maryam Monsef
and the Scarborough Caucus to engage with women from the Filipina community!
