Ramen!

Ramen! We will be chanting this all day as we wait for the clock to strike 5:00 p.m. It's the TG we have all been waiting for - Ramen Challenge. The Southeast Asia club is hosting a competition between Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, and Philipines for the most delicious ramen. Don't forget to get your ticket. May the best noodle win.

Looking for an extracurricular activity? How about writing for Inside Kellogg. This Kellogg student blog gives you the opportunity to publish your stories to an audience of fellow and prospective MBA students. If you're interested in writing about your club, venture, research, or Kellogg journey, reach out to aubyn.keefe@kellogg.northwestern.edu

Read on for content to get you in the summer mood and a costume gold mine located right in our own backyard.

May showers bring June flowers...?

Maybe we've had the saying wrong all along because it will be another soggy day. Expect a high of 52°F (11°C) and scattered thunderstorms with a chance of hail later in the evening.

Summer Movies to Get You in the Sunny Mood

Summer is almost upon us and for many, that means starting a new career or internship (or for the lucky 2nd years who negotiated late start dates, it means a few extra months of travel). Regardless of how you will be spending the summer months, the season brings about a certain carefree and nostalgic vibe. Although we can no longer spend summer our days consuming Freeze Pops at the pool or cultivating a summer camp romance, we can reminisce through our favorite summertime classics.

Sandlot
Nothing says summer quite like baseball and Wendy Peffercorn

Wet Hot American Summer
This movie will leave you longing for Ski Trip as much as summer. Lakes, mess halls, athletic socks, hot shorts. What more could you want out of life or a movie?

Dirty Dancing
Patrick Swayze woos us all with his dance moves and forbidden romance.

Parent Trap
Let's be real, we all know the Lohan version is best.

Grease
Grease has it all - summer lovin', electrifying dance moves, and leather. The only place we'd rather be than Kellogg is Rydel High. Tell me about it, stud.

Jaws
You'll be grateful that there are no sharks in Lake Michigan after watching this epic battle of man vs. nature.

Caddyshack
Get the country club vibes and golf outfit inspiration from this timeless film about being an outsider. Rumor has it, Time and ESPN have claimed Caddyshack to be the funniest film of all time.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The perfect way to get you in the mood for Kellogg's annual Ferris Bueller's Day Off and to remind you that "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Weekend at Bernie's
This movie will provide guidance on what to do if your boss dies while you are at his vacation home. Soak up the beach house, boats, golf carts, and lighthouses via this dark comedy.

Dazed and Confused
The film where Matthew McConaughey coined his trademark phrase "alright, alright, alright" will leave you with an urge to ditch all responsibilities in favor of a good old fashioned kegger in the woods.

The stuff nightmares are made of

And def the inspiration for Donnie Darko

While we know you all love a good splurge on Amazon for the 1000+ costumes that Kellogg requires (#onesielyfe), sometimes an event comes up faster than that glorious two-day shipping window allows. Fear not, because a short drive away lies Lost Eras, “Chicago’s largest and most experienced dealers in costumes, antiques, props, film props, theater props, and Halloween costumes.” Officially founded in 1985 by Charlotte Walters, this family business is still owned and operated by Charlotte and her son Casey, and is staffed by a delightful cast of characters. And believe us when we say they have almost any costume you could ever imagine.

But, even if you don’t really need that men’s Victorian vampire outfit (or do you?), you’ll still want to stop by to explore, because this place is a trip. The first floor has room after room stuffed with racks of costumes on the floor and ceiling, and is lined with shelves filled with almost every mascot head you can think of (although, inexplicably for its proximity to Northwestern, no wildcat). If you're not trying to live your #bestfurrylife, where you’ll really need to head next is the basement, which has about triple the square footage of the first floor, and where you can easily get lost among the cluttered, meandering pathways.

Downstairs you’ll find even more costumes, including the bodies to the aforementioned mascot heads, as well as the not at all creepy corner of Easter Bunny heads pictured above (but also, inexplicably again, no Santas). When you're done contemplating the weird supply and demand of holiday figureheads, keep exploring and you'll find the real gems: all the random antique stuff.

There are rooms of old rotary phones (remember when phones had cords?), WWII-era fans, typewriters, steamer trunks, original iMacs (because some of us didn't get one as a kid, thanks for nothing, Mom, j/k love you thanks for reading this), and just about anything else you can imagine. Whether you need to dress a set, or just redecorate your new apartment in industrial chic, this place has it all, plus some surprises that we won’t spoil for you.

Fair warning, their wares tend to be on the expensive side, but most things are generally available to rent. Also, word on the street is that you can haggle them down, so come ready with your BATNA and MESOs.

Chicago Outdoor Movies and Theatre

If bike riding along Lake Michigan isn't up your alley, then we suggest a less active way to enjoy summertime Chi. Free movies are screened at parks all around the city almost every night of the week, so grab your canned rose, Whole Foods cheese tray, and blanket to create a cozy picnic and night to remember. Check out some of our favorite venues below, or see the complete Movies in the Park schedule here

Millennium Park
From June - August, Millennium Park hosts a Summer Film Series on Tuesday evenings. They will be showing movies such as 10 Things I Hate About YouFrida, and everything in between. Check out the full schedule here. And don't forget to snap that selfie with The Bean while you're there.

Navy Pier
Navy Pier is hosting its third annual Water Flicks. This summer they are featuring superhero movies such as Spiderman, Black Panther, and Avengers. This family fun event takes place on Monday evenings from June 24 - August 12. See the complete schedule here

Gallagher Way
On Wednesday evenings when the Cubs are on the road, Gallagher Way (the greenspace adjacent to Wrigley Field) will host movie nights. Be sure to get there early to grab dinner from the food trucks before settling into classics such as Clueless, The Breakfast Club, and Field of Dreams. Find the complete line up here
