Affordable Housing Development Partnership
The City will partner with the Regional Municipality of Niagara to gauge interest in, and solicit competitive bids from not-for-profit partners for, the construction of an affordable housing development at 4500 Park Street and also to complete the record of site condition on the subject property.

Framework for Recreation in Canada
The future strategic direction for the City's Recreation & Culture Department will be guided by the new National Framework for Recreation, which outlines a common view of the role of recreation in Canadian life. The framework was unanimously endorsed by Council.

|
Commercial Parking Lots
Improving the aesthetics and conditions of all commercial parking lots remains a priority for the City. Council approved staff recommendations that will assist lot owners who are actively working towards by-law compliance by issuing temporary, conditional licences and monitoring the situation as part of ongoing enforcement efforts. Licensing fees will also be increased in 2020.

New Addition to the Stanley Avenue Business Park
In line with the City's commitment to support Economic Growth and Prosperity by providing incentives for private sector reinvestment and employment, Council approved staff recommendations to grant Tire Resort Inc.'s applications for the Niagara Gateway CIP Tax Increment Based Grant and Municipal Employment Incentive programs.

Niagara Region Official Plan Update
& Natural Environment Work Program
Council received two presentations from the Niagara Region at Tuesday's meeting. Dave Heyworth, Official Plan Policy Consultant presented background information regarding the creation of the new Regional Official Plan, an update on the status of the priority background studies, and an overview of the consultation timeline framework. Sean Norman, Senior Planner, presented an overview of the natural environment background study completed for the new Regional Official Plan.

YMCA of Niagara
The YMCA has completed the first year of their two-year Revitalization Plan at the MacBain Community Centre, in collaboration with the City of Niagara Falls. Cathyann White delivered a presentation on the improvements, including the YMCA space, memberships and new programs and services. Visit ymcaofniagara.org.

Project Share
Project Share gives out 3,600 lbs of food every day in our community, including a 229% increase in fresh produce, however needs in our community have grown and summertime donations tend to decrease. Proclamation: National Public Works Week
The Mayor and Council of Niagara Falls urge all citizens to join with representatives of the Canadian Public Works Association and government agencies in activities, events and ceremonies designed to pay tribute to our public works professionals, engineers, managers and employees and to recognize the substantial contributions they make to protecting our national health, safety, and quality of life.
The City's free, annual Touch-A-Truck event will be held on Saturday, May 25 from 10 to 2 at the Gale Centre.

The Recreation Committee has several free, community events planned for June including a kick-off celebration at A.J. McKinley Park, the Grand Opening of the Niagara Falls Bark Park, free Pickleball Lessons and more!

Recognition: Ashlee Standish
The 2019 Allister Young Arts & Culture Endowment Fund was awarded to Ashlee Standish, a pianist, multi-instrumental musician and community arts supportor. Standish's song "Deadly Nightshade" won the Niagara Music Award for best instrumental of the year.

Volunteer Recognition: The Soup Kitchen
Niagara Falls Community Outreach will host a Volunteer Appreciation event on Wednesday, May 22 at the Gale Centre. The charity organization relies on over 300 volunteers to operate the Soup Kitchen on St. Lawrence Avenue which provides year-round service to our community. Swing Hard for Hospice Niagara
10th annual charity tournament takes place Monday, June 24 at Legends on the Niagara. Hospice Niagara focuses on improving the quality of life for people living with life-limiting illnesses, dying, death, loss and grief. Register or donate at hospiceniagara.com.
