Gov. Kemp signs S.B. 207; GBPW to change name

At a bill signing ceremony last month in Newnan, Gov. Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 207 in to law, which changes the name of the Georgia Board for Physician Workforce and alters the GBPW's composition to reflect the Board's changing mission.

The new name for the GBPW will be the "Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce," which aligns with the expanded scope of the Board's loan repayment programs, which includes physicians, dentists, physician assistants, and advanced practice registered nurses.

The legislation also changes the GBPW's board member structure to add a dentist, a physician assistant, and a nurse practitioner.

All changes will go into effect on July 1, 2019. Click

State agencies collaborate on one-stop health care education webpage

The Georgia Board for Physician Workforce has launched a one-stop resource for all things related to Georgia’s medical education pipeline. The GBPW developed this resource through a collaboration with the State Office of Rural Health, Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership, and the Georgia Technology Authority.

Whether someone is a college student looking at medical schools, a medical school student deciding about residency programs, or a resident exploring opportunities to practice, the GBPW wants this website to be a one-stop shop for medical education and practice opportunities in the Peach State.

GBPW, Mercer SOM create video to highlight physician workforce resources

The Georgia Board for Physician Workforce partnered with Mercer University School of Medicine to produce a one-minute marketing video that informs the public about the Board and its work.

The video features snippets of all five medical schools in Georgia and highlights how the Board's funding is utilized to support both the recruitment and retention of the state's health care workforce through medical education and loan repayment programs.
