Raising Faith Conference

Raising Faith Conference, St Mary's Goudhurst, 29 June 2019, 9.30am-4.15pm

With headlines such as 'UK has among the fewest Christian young adults in Europe, study finds' and 'Christianity as default is gone: the rise of a non-Christian Europe' abounding in the mainstream press last year, you are probably aware that the statistics relating to the likelihood of the young people in our churches sticking with their faith into adulthood are not very encouraging.

Yet when one study asked young people who believe in God who the key influences on their faith are, 72% said their family; not church, not their friends nor their Sunday groups - their family. This shows that what we as parents do and say has a large impact on our family’s faith lives. Whilst that may be heartening and terrifying in equal measure, you may well feel ill-equipped to deal with the responsibility that this places on us.

You might find that you often come up against brick walls that our society throws at us; busy-ness, Sunday sports activities, too many choices for us and our children to make, and that you have to battle to find the time to balance faith alongside everyday life.

The Raising Faith Conference has been organised to help find new strategies for families and the whole church to work together to raise our children’s faith.

This will be a great day of learning, conversation, debate and solutions to the question 'How do we enable our children and young people to have a faith that continues for their whole lifetime?' and 'How do we work in partnership with church and the family for this to happen?

We will have some great speakers joining us to share their wisdom:
· Ali Campbell, the Resource
· Jo Squires, Youth For Christ
· Gareth Hillier, Care for the Family
· Murray Wilkinson, Canterbury Children and Young People Adviser
· Cheryl Trice, Rochester Children and Young People Adviser
· Mike Harrowing, Children's Workshop.
The event is not solely aimed at parents or those in paid ministry positions and we hope that as many church leaders, carers, grandparents, school leaders, Sunday group leaders and anyone who has an interest in nurturing our young people spiritually, will book and participate in the day.  So please do share this with your church and anyone else who may find it of interest.

'Peaced' Together

‘Peaced Together’ is a 10-week course for women, using creative arts such as weaving, painting, mosaic, sewing and decoupage to explore how creativity can bring healing to our lives. No experience of any of these crafts is necessary as we demonstrate all the activities and provide all the materials.  During the course we explore themes such as hope, love, forgiveness and peace in a small friendly group.  There is a small charge of £3 per session to cover the cost of materials and refreshments.  The next course will begin on Tuesday 10 September, 12.30-2.30pm at St Philip’s Church.
