MESSAGE FROM YOUR MINISTER

Dear Holy Ones,

Following up on my resignation letter last month, I can now announce to you that I will be heading to Connecticut in August to serve The Unitarian Universalist Church in Meriden, CT and The Mattatuck Unitarian Universalist Society in Woodbury, CT as they begin working together to form a united UU community  in south central Connecticut. Each congregation has a strong sense of activism and deep involvement in social justice issues.  My last Sunday service will be the Flower Communion on June 2, 2019. I will be on vacation/sabbatical during June, July, and August.

THIS Sunday, May 19 will be a “Question Box” sermon and I look forward to fielding your questions.

Blessings,

Rev. Tony

Rev. Tony would love to hear your feedback. Give him a call (508-344-3668), send him a letter, or fill out this online form.

Message From Your Board

Change is upon us! The clouds will clear, and the sun will return. We remain faithful and optimistic that a season of renewal is just ahead. It is with hope and excitement that the Board announces that we have selected Rev. Stephen Cook to work with us in the coming year as a Developmental Minister. The process to interview and decide came upon us less than two weeks ago; but we jumped right in and came up with a minister who has come highly recommended for his qualifications to meet us where we are and lead us through the journey we have ahead of us- to heal from the past, focus on our goals and revitalize as a congregation.
We invite you to join us for our end of year service presented by the Board on June 9th to learn more about our plans with Rev. Cook as we gather to share in a congregational conversation to talk about where we have been and where we hope to go together. This is a time to reflect as well as prepare for the next part of our journey.
But first! Please join us for the Budget Hearing on May 19th, with a potluck lunch and review of what our financial plans and options will be in the coming year. And, most importantly, we need you all to support the Annual Meeting on June 2nd- to vote on nominees, budgets and bylaws updates from last year. We need around 30 people to make it all work- so don't hesitate to exercise your right to be a voting member of this congregation- and invest in our future together.

In hopeful anticipation!

ANNUAL MEETING-JUNE 2ND

The Parish Board invites you to the Annual church meeting on Sunday, June 2nd following the service. You are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting and help make the decisions the church will live with for the next year. Annual meetings are the primary method by which the Congregation runs the church. We need 20% of Active members to attend to reach a quorum to convene the meeting: for Bylaw approval we need 51% of active. Please join us and have your say when it truly matters!   Congregation Letter

GRIEF CIRCLE (Thursday-5/23 from 7-8:30 pm)

Are you grieving a loss? Are you feeling sad or uncertain about changes that are occurring in your life, family, or community? There are two upcoming opportunities at HUP to help you process your grief and loss, and to help you move forward in your life. A facilitated grief circle can help you heal, and share with others who are also grieving. You are not alone. Rev. Patricia Hatch has been doing pastoral work with grieving people for over five years. She has a Master of Divinity from Boston University and is an ordained Unitarian minister. She serves as a multi-faith officiant. To RSVP,  please email at

ONGOING STEWARDSHIP DRIVE

Stewardship can be defined as “an ethic that embodies the responsible planning and management of resources”. Considering this definition, we enter our pledge season with a perspective of what it means to be part of the Hopedale Unitarian Parish and how best to “Steward” this community toward the future. To that end, the Board has been working on our annual stewardship efforts and a “pledge” letter has been mailed to all members. We are grateful for the ongoing abundance that is part of the Hopedale Unitarian Parish community.

BASEMENT CLEAN-UP ONGOING
The Parish Basement is in need of clean-up. Items that have been placed in the basement over the years are gathering mold. If this mold is allowed to grow, it will begin to cause problems through-out the building.  Maryhelen Hibben has stepped forward to spearhead the clean-up effort, but more help is needed. This is not a project for one person! Please let her know that you can help by calling her at 401-588-1195.
CHURCH ROOF SLATE TILES RE-PURPOSED
As part of being a Green Sanctuary we try to repurpose materials we no longer need. Slate that has fallen off our roof was given to Cheryl Cohen, an artist from Holliston. She creates mosaics and also holds classes. You may have seen her art at Hopedale’s Winter Stroll. This photo shows a “Mosai-Sticks” creation which includes pieces of our slate! Her students love the fact that the pieces come from a church. Classes in mosaics are available. http://cherylcohenmosaics.com/

HAPPENINGS IN THE UUA

During May, National Mental Health Awareness Month, notice how it is with you and those around you. Many youth, emerging adults, and adults quietly carry anxiety, depression, or an addiction. Who might find some grounding or comfort in a simple spiritual practice? Whether you are facing a mental health struggle or taking care to stay in a good place, use or share these spiritual practices and tools to make May better.

Publication Policy

If you have some news or information you would like to get out to people via our twice monthly email or in our order of service insert, or mentioned from the podium on Sunday morning, please get the announcement of 50 words or less to the church in writing via hard copy or email no later than 10 a.m. on Thursdays.  We publish as much as we can weekly and two or three timely announcements will be read aloud during the service on Sunday morning. We ask that announcements be about congregational life, the greater world of Unitarian Universalism, or local community events of importance to congregational life and mission.
