News and Updates from MESA

From the Principal's Desk

We have recently partnered with FAST (Families and Schools Together) for the upcoming school year.  This partnership will help with increased parent engagement and support with school related concerns.  In addition MESA staff will receive training in important areas that impact families and education. To help FAST staff learn more about our families and your areas of concern I am asking that parents complete the survey.  Click the link below to access the survey, the survey takes about 10-15 minutes.

As of today we only have 10 full days of school remaining.  Parents, please be reminded that the last day of school for grades K4,1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th is on May 31, 2019.  This is also an early release day, school ends at 12:30pm. Buses will depart MESA at 12:40pm. Please make note of the modified schedule and make plans accordingly to ensure that your child gets home safely.  There will be no After Care service on this day and the building will close at 1:00pm.

The last day of school is the BIG MESA “KICK BACK”!  We will be celebrating this years academic and social achievement with an incredibly fun end of the year outdoor cookout.  Scholars are allowed to wear jean bottoms but are required to wear their MESA shirts. This is a leave your book-bag at home day.  Our end of the year KICKBACK will include basketball, kickball, face painting, spa treatment care, 2 huge bounce houses, popcorn popping, ice cream, visits from MPD, MFD, and a lot more.  We want to make sure that our scholars end their year on a fun a positive note. More information will be shared including a note indicating what we are asking from for each grade. Scholars who struggle to meet the MESA behavioral expectations through the end of the year will not be allowed to participate.  Please share and discuss the behavioral expectations and habits of scholarship with your child(ren).

Lastly, if you have not updated the school with new phone numbers and mailing addresses you risk missing important information that could result in your scholar losing their seat.  Have you turned in your scholars INTENT to RETURN form? If no you must do so immediately. If you need another copy please contact the main office. If you do not indicate that your child(ren) are returning for the 2019-2020 school year on the intent to return form and fail to turn it into the main office your child(ren) will risk losing their seats.  Contact the school regarding enrollment. Are you aware that we have some seats available in grades K 4-8th? Share this information with loved ones and friends. We are currently accepting new applications for next year.

Habit Of Scholarship - HOS Focus

Habit Of Scholarship - HOS Focus

Our final month’s habit of scholarship focus is respect. So as we closeout our year at MESA scholars are reminded that respect is a key component to being a great scholar.  Being respectful at school and home will catapult our scholars into a safe and joyful summer.

This short clip is about respect. Have a dialogue with your scholar about how to be respectful.

Trimester 3 Awards Program

We are excited to be able to celebrate our scholars for their accomplishments for the third and final trimester of school. Please join us on Thursday, May 23rd for our Trimester 3 Awards Program. The program for K4-4th grade will take place from 9:00-10:30 a.m. while  5th-8th grade is scheduled from 1:30-3:00 p.m.

Celebration of Learning

What is a Celebration of Learning? Celebrations of learning are more than a display of scholar’s work or a party at the end of the year. The events challenge scholars to reflect on and articulate what they have learned, how they learned, questions they answered, research they conducted, and areas of strength and struggles. They are powerful opportunities to make learning public. We welcome our families to join us at our Celebration of Learning on Friday, May 24th from 9-11 a.m.

LET’S ENGAGE w/Dean Cobb….

As the cold weather departs and the warm weather enters, it lets us know that summer break will be upon us soon. One question a lot of parents ask is “do you know about any summer programs for my child?” Two organizations that have reached out to MESA are, Summit Educational Association and Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast. Both have summer programs that cater to academics, leadership and character building. Summit promotes the educational and personal development of inner city boys and girls, improving academic skills. Emphasis is put on character development and parental involvement. Please contact Marc Minani at (414)-672-1786 for more information. At Girl Scouts, girls find a safe space where they are free to be themselves. Many Girl Scouts report that summer camp was one of the best things about their Girl Scout experience. Camping is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. Explore all of the exciting opportunities available this summer. Registration is now open! Our MESA community outreach specialist is: Kenysha Washington, 414-443-3913 or log onto, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast...

Parents, if you are planning on enrolling any NEW scholars to MESA please come to the main office to fill out an application and complete any other paperwork needed for new scholars. It will be held Monday, July 15 - Friday, July 26, from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM. FREE yellow bus transportation will be provided! Help MESA Fundraise

MESA has a fundraising goal of $40,000.00 this year. Our first pizza sale fundraiser was a success! There will be a winter and a spring concert along with other opportunities to support our school.  If you want to make a donation to the school or vol with a fundraiser see Dean Cobb for more details.

  •  Make sure your child has a quiet, well-lit place to do homework.

  • Avoid having your child do homework with the television on or in places with other distractions, such as people coming and going.

  • Make sure the materials your child needs, such as paper, pencils and a dictionary, are available. Ask your child if special materials will be needed for some projects and get them in advance.

  • Help your child with time management.

  • Establish a set time each day for doing homework. Don‘t let your child leave homework until just before bedtime. Think about using a weekend morning or afternoon for working on big projects, especially if the project involves getting together with classmates.

  • Tell your child how important school is. The attitude you express about homework will be the attitude your child acquires.

  • When your child does homework, you do homework.

  • Show your child that the skills they are learning are related to things you do as an adult. If your child is reading, you read too. If your child is doing math, balance your checkbook.
