Oh, the mystery since 1924!!
Mysterious Catalina Island Bison herd was formed from Yellowstone National Park Bison in 1924
Until I have proof that says otherwise, I think the original bison came from Yellowstone Park, after the filming of ‘The Thundering Herd.”
If DNA testing is correct today, (meaning advancements are being made) it should tell us whether or not the cattle genes in the present herd came from Texas or not. The Sherwin Ranch of Colorado who sent bison there in 1934, previously tried crossing them with cattle.

I researched this herd as with many other stories, I get tired of 'rumors' being published as facts. The bison rumor is still being published today. I gathered what I could find and published to let the reader see what I see. I love a good "whodunnit."

"As we're taking the picture, this man at the edge of the parking lot hollers out, 'You guys are too close! It's starting to move,'" says Burgess, 47, a manager at a manufacturing plant in Flora, MS. She heard the thudding of hoofs and started to run.
"I made it probably three steps running before he got me. I was airborne," she says. "When I hit the ground all I could think was, 'He's going to trample me. It's over. It's a wrap.'"

Guidance Regarding the Use of Multimin®90 in Bison |
|
Dear Members,
The National Bison Association has received calls from our members reporting adverse reactions—including death—in bison after animals were treated with Multimin®90, an injectable trace mineral supplement approved for dairy and beef cattle.
We reached out directly to Multimin today to request guidance on the use of Multimin®90 in bison.
Here is the official response we received promptly from the company:
- Multimin® 90 is labeled for the use in cattle only ( see below)
- We do not recommend the use of Multimin® 90 in other animals except for cattle.
- There is no research data to support Multimin® 90 use in bison so extra label use is prohibited.
Accordingly, we strongly advise against the use of this product in bison.
Best Regards,
Dave Carter |
