FINAL CALL FOR FEATURE FILM SUBMISSIONS

The application process for this year's 30th anniversary festival in October is coming to a close! Submit your feature film by June 14th, 2019 to be considered for SJIWFF30!

APPLY FOR THE 2019 RBC MJ AWARD

Open to emerging female filmmakers who reside in Newfoundland and Labrador who have not directed a feature film, the RBC Michelle Jackson Emerging Filmmaker Award was founded in honour of St. John’s filmmaker and student mentor Michelle Jackson.

With a total value of $35,000, the prize includes mentorship, in-kind services and $16,000 cash towards the creation of a six-minute film. The final film will be premiered at the Closing Night Gala of the 31st annual St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival in October 2020.

Thank you to the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council for hosting the 34th ArtsNL Arts Awards out in Eastport at the Beaches Arts and Heritage Centre. Six awards honouring the accomplishments of Newfoundland and Labrador’s artists were presented.

FOTG NOW SCREENING AT THE ST. JOHN'S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT!
 
We are thrilled to announce we are partnering with the St. John's International Airport as a part of the summer YYT Entertainment Series in the Departures Lounge. Now until August 21st, passengers from all over the world can enjoy a variety of short films selected from those featured at the 2018 St. John's International Women's Film Festival!

Interested in hosting your own Films On The Go?

You or your organization can plan the event—a special movie night, a fundraiser, anything you want—publicize it, and run it. We’ll mail you a DVD with 9 exuberant live-action, animated and documentary short films, hailing from Newfoundland and Labrador, mainland Canada and around the world. The program has been selected to suit general audiences, a great fit for the summer! H

DGC SUMMER WORKSHOPS IN ST. JOHN'S

The Directors Guild of Canada - Atlantic Region is offering several workshops in St. John's on June 17-18 to address industry etiquette, best workplace behaviours, workplace harassment and discrimination, along with some bigger cultural elements that factor into building respectful workplaces in the #metoo era. 

The goal of this course is to develop a greater understanding of ourselves and how we interact with others, aiming to create and sustain positive, productive work environments. Register now!

DIRECTORS PROGRAM FOR WOMEN NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Canadian Academy Directors Program is an initiative that came from the Academy’s desire to reach gender parity and ensure the greater representation of women and women-identifying directors working in today’s screen-based media industry.
The program is designed to bolster the professional development of Canadian directors by providing hands-on experience through a wide range of activities, including an exclusive professional development symposium, a six-part online learning module, and curated on-set director observer placements with established production companies and high-profile directors.

WOMEN IN THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR FEATURE FILM AWARD NOW OPEN

Supported by leading Canadian screen industry organizations, the WIDC Feature Film Award is an annual national peer juried prize valued at up to approximately $200,000 in-kind towards a first or second, scripted fiction feature film project directed by one Canadian female-identified** director, anywhere in Canada. 

Deadline: Tuesday, July 2, 2019
