Conference and AGM Report
 
The main theme for the Annual City of Sanctuary conference in Coventry was the effective engagement and meaningful participation of people seeking sanctuary in the wider network.

Annual Review now Available 
 
The City of Sanctuary 2018 Annual Review is now available to download from the website here or contact Joanna@cityofsanctuary.org for a printed copy. The review updates our streams work and provides highlights and photos from around the network.
 
Farewell Tiffy
 
We're wishing Tiffy Allen, National City of Sanctuary coordinator 2010-2017 and Ireland Coordinator 2017-2019 a long and happy retirement in Ireland at the end of this month. We're grateful for her welcome parting gift of stories from the City of Sanctuary network 2005-2019 in her book "A Hundred Thousand Welcomes" available from Lulu publishers. Please share the link to access this beautifully written, accessible book and help promote our history to inspire others to engage with the vision of welcome.

#LiftTheBan Campaign - A month of action
 
To keep momentum and increase the pressure on decision-makers to make policy change, Lift the Ban has proposed Days of Action in June. It encourages coalition members and their partners to pick a date which works best for their local context, including during Refugee Week and organise a lift the Ban Day of Action event. #Time4aTimeLimit

Detention campaigners are calling for its supporters to lobby their MPs to support the push for a 28-day time limit on immigration detention. Read the recent report here
Patients not Passports – New Toolkit
 
The ‘Patients not Passports’ Toolkit has recently been launched by Docs Not Cops, Migrants Organise, and Medact. The Toolkit offers resources and information to support healthcare workers and people affected by charging to launch campaigns in their Trusts and in their communities.  More details here
This Refugee Week support the UNHCR campaign  to send a strong message of global grass roots solidarity for #familiesforced to flee by signing your city to the statement of solidarity #WithRefugees.  More details here

 Universities of Sanctuary Conference 
 
The first University of Sanctuary annual conference will take place in York on Wednesday, September 4th. Click here for more information including how to book your place.

Latest Asylum Statistics
 
The quarterly asylum statistics have been released - January to March and reveal that a 12% increase of people seeking asylum in the UK  waiting more than six months for their claim to be processed. Follow the link for more insights.
Access to Healthcare Resources
 
The Equalities and Human Rights Commission has recently published a number of practical materials to improve healthcare access for people seeking and refused asylum here
Safe Surgeries
 
We love the Doctors of the World Safe Surgeries project which improves access to and experience of healthcare for people seeking sanctuary. It also lays the ground work for Surgery of Sanctuary Awards.   Please find out more here and help to promote this excellent initiative
Britain Talks
 
Britain Talks is a project where people are matched with someone in their local area with different political views and arrange to meet up on June 23rd.  You can sign up here to participate.

NACCOM Convention on Hosting
 
NACCOM is running ‘Happy To Host’, a one day convention for hosts, guests and coordinators as well as anyone who is interested in knowing more about opening up their home to someone in need on the 13th of July. Details here
