Help needed from Members

If you think you are able to come along on the day – even for an hour or so, could you let me us please? I think we need a good turnout of Sketch Club members to give the day a buzz. If you can think of any other members who might be interested could you spread the word? This would be much appreciated.

More on this in a later Newsletter.  Meanwhile here is an image  of one of the pieces produced by Nigel….
Christine Mannion, Helen Newton and Marjorie Walter are three local artists who met through Leicester Sketch Club.
Their paintings are a celebration of colour in life through their vibrant images of people, plants and places.

Sketching at the Museum Saturday 5th October

The Sketch Club is hosting another Sketching day at the Museum and Art Gallery.
Make a note of the date – Saturday 5th October.
This year we will be linking it to the Big Draw festival. Hoping that this timing will help raise the profile of the Sketch Club and attract visitors to the Annual Exhibition, too, which opens later in October.

What to see and draw:
Leicester Riverside Festival,

Now in its 22nd year, this free festival provides plenty of opportunities for us to draw buildings, temporary structures and people engaging in a variety of activities. Spread over four areas that are a short distance from our meeting point, this free two-day festival features activities on and off the water.

River Soar & Mile Straight hosts the colourful narrow boat rally, boat trips, canoes, boat rides, demonstrations and the opportunity to view and buy work from local artists at Art on The River.

Bede Park will have a fun fair, food stalls, acoustic music stage, whilst on the Piazza area, the large music stage will feature great live bands and music for all ages.

Western Boulevard hosts a popular street market with arts, crafts, tasty street food plus the Ride Leicester cycling area.

Castle Gardens includes children's activities with an eco and environmental focus.

For more information on the Riverside Festival please visit https://www.visitleicester.info/whats-on/riverside-festival-p704771 or the Official Facebook, who kindly gave me permission to reuse their photo

Bring your own drawing materials, stool, appropriate clothes and provisions etc. It is a chance to meet
people in the community, sketch, chat, share tips. The festival does get busy so we will arrive just as they finish setting up. We would suggest keeping all valuables on you.
-
beginners/ experienced all welcome. Let us
know if you can make it by clicking on 'Going' on this event page, or simply pop by on the day.

You're very welcome to upload your sketches to our FB page at any time. Please feel free to tag in any venues you are in or surrounding area to help create more awareness of the city.
:

Please note that our meeting venue does
have full wheelchair accessibility and an accessible toilet facility.

EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITY
The trustees of Thornton Community Centre are organising an Art, Sculpture and Photography exhibition (sale & workshops) to run over the first weekend in July.

This is the first time we have held an exhibition of this kind and we would like it to become an annual event, one published as an attraction in the National Forest.

We have two large halls at the centre, which overlooks the picturesque Thornton reservoir, which attracts a  large number of visitors to the village, especially at weekends.

We will be providing refreshments as an added attraction.

We wondered if any of your members would be interested in exhibiting at the event and we would be pleased if you could make your members aware of the opportunities available, either as exhibitor or visitor.

Call out for artists to be part of one of Leicester’s biggest free festivals!

Now in its 22nd year, and taking place over Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 June, the family friendly Riverside Festival features fun on and off the water.

After last year's successful debut event, artists, painters, 2D / 3D artists, sculptors, craft artists and photographers are invited to display and sell their artwork within a dedicated 'Art on the River' area along Western Boulevard, showcasing their work to approximately 40,000 festival-goers. A three-metre railing space along the river is just £25 per day or £35 for 2 days.

To be part of this unique opportunity please go to our website for full details and an application form
