2019 Annual NCFR Conference
Preliminary Schedule Now Available

Early-bird registration ends June 13 for the 2019 NCFR Annual Conference, Nov. 20-23 in Fort Worth, Texas. Whether you’re a member, student, or nonmember, you can lock into a discounted conference rate if you act quickly. All attending participants must register for the conference.

All proposal submitters were notified of their proposal status on Tuesday, May 21, by an email from OxfordAbstracts.com. First authors were asked to notify their co-authors.

If you submitted a proposal but did not see an email notice dated May 21, please check your junk, spam, promotions, or bulk mail folders. Email Cindy Winter with questions or concerns.

A preliminary conference schedule is now available as a PDF download. A complete schedule with full session details will be available in late summer.

JFTRThe Journal of Family Theory & Review (JFTR) publishes original contributions in all areas of family theory, including advancing theories through critical and metatheoretical projects, and comprehensive reviews of literature.

The June 2019 issue (Volume 11, Issue 2) is now available for subscribers. It features new articles on addressing family violence, family change, stress spillover and prayer, and family communication patterns.

NCFR Seeks Nominations for 2019 Fellows

Deadline for nominations: Sept. 15, 2019

2016 FellowsFellow status in NCFR is an honor awarded to living members of NCFR based on their outstanding contributions to Family Science. Nominations of all family scholars and professionals who have made contributions to the family field are encouraged.

Among the recognized areas of contributions are scholarship, teaching, outreach, practice, and professional service, including service to NCFR. By definition, outstanding contributions are those that have broad impact on the field and are enduring over time.

Apply or Nominate Colleagues for NCFR International Section Awards by June 15

Honor the scholarly achievement of your colleagues in the family field by nominating them for an award from NCFR. The following awards recognize scholarship with a focus on international families.

The two scholarships provide travel funding for the recipient(s) to present original research at the 2019 NCFR Annual Conference in Fort Worth, Texas.

The deadline to apply for these awards is Saturday, June 15.

Member News
Reed-Fitzke and Duncan Receive Grant to Help Identify At-Risk Soldiers

NCFR members Kayla Reed-Fitzke, Ph.D., LMFT, and James M. Duncan, Ph.D., CFLE, DAV, have received a Society for Military Psychology Member/Affiliate Research Grant to conduct research into how to help at-risk soldiers get the support needed to be safe and successful early in their careers.

The $2,500 grant will help fund the research project, "Identifying At-Risk U.S. Army Soldiers: A Person-Centered Approach to Adverse Childhood Experiences."

Feedback Sought on National Survey of Same-Gender Couples

NCFR member Claire Kamp Dush, Ph.D., is seeking feedback on a first draft of the survey for a new population-representative study of U.S. families, with implications for Family Science.

Dr. Kamp Dush is the primary investigator of The National Couples' Health and Time Study, the first U.S. population-representative study of cohabiting and married same-gender couples. Data will also be collected from couples of different genders, and an emphasis will be placed on recruiting racial and ethnic minorities in the sample.

Submit Nominations for the Wiley Prize in Family Science: The Alexis Walker Award

Deadline for applications: July 1, 2019

Nominations are now being accepted for the Wiley Prize in Family Science: The Alexis Walker Award. The biennial prize of $5,000 will be given for the best research in the discipline of Family Science published in a Wiley journal in 2017 and 2018.

It will be the fourth Alexis Walker Award, and will be presented at the 2019 NCFR Annual Conference in Fort Worth, Texas. Self-nominations are welcome!

Call for Editors
Journal of Divorce & Remarriage Seeks Editorial Board Members

The Journal of Divorce & Remarriage seeks new members to join its editorial board. Established in 1977, this international scholarly journal covers all aspects of divorce, with an interdisciplinary focus represented by a professionally diverse editorial board and wide variety of published topics.

Board members are expected to review articles as part of the journal’s double-blind peer review system; encourage submissions to the journal; suggest special issues/emerging topics/review articles; and promote the journal to colleagues, students, and other professionals.

The submission deadline is June 30, 2019.

Upcoming Event
Longitudinal SEM: Applications with Individual and Family Level Data

June 19–21, 2019 | Brigham Young University | Provo, Utah

Approved for 18 CFLE contact hours of continuing education credit

Brigham Young University will offer a longitudinal SEM summer workshop on June 20–21. Participants will receive basic introductions to SEM and growth curve modeling, before going deeper into each topic. The workshop includes time to set up, analyze, and interpret models using participants' own data. NCFR members Jeremy Yorgason, Ph.D., Justin Dyer, Ph.D., and Spencer James, Ph.D., are the workshop instructors.

An optional preconference workshop on Mplus will be held on June 19. The registration deadline is June 7, 2019.
