Who will be Queen? The Fort Bend County Fair is accepting entries for contestants for the Fair Queen Scholarship Contest. A mandatory orientation meeting will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Fairgrounds in building W. "Being Fair Queen is a tradition at the Fort Bend County Fair. While we have one winner, all these young ladies who take the opportunity to run for Queen will endure an experience and acquire a set of skills that they will be able to take with them into their college years and beyond into their careers. Our Fair Queen Scholarship Committee is making a difference in these candidates’ lives,” said Marjie Pollard, 2019 Fort Bend County Fair President.

Reigning queen, Hannah Hunt, has been busy attending events, riding in parades, and representing as an ambassador for the Fair. As part of Hannah’s journey to the crown she submitted an essay and attended a networking event as part of the competition. Including attending a workshop that had presentations on social media safe practices, interview techniques, make-up and hair tutorials, styling tips, etiquette enhancement, and nutrition/well-being discussion.

Winning Catch!

Fishing Tournament

The conditions were rough, and the wind was fierce, but the Fort Bend County Fair Association's Sixth Annual Boots & Buckles on the Bay fishing tournament was a success. 45 Fishing teams and 9 junior anglers competed for cash and prizes totaling over $15,000. Prizes included trophy belt buckles, boots, and custom Frio Ice Chests.  The Grand Champion Team was earned by 2Gs, team members include John Gully, Gary Atkins, Tim Johnson, and Patrick Gully.

“The wind was howling like crazy; I didn’t know if the water was going to be good enough to catch those fish. I caught the red, it was almost 9lbs. A little while later I hooked a trout, I got it close to me and it kept getting bigger and bigger. It was 7 lbs. 10 ozs.  A little while later I caught the second biggest red of our stringer. So, I caught the 3 biggest fish within an hour and half of the day,” said 2Gs team captain, John Gully. Gully and his team won first place stringer, Grand Champion Trout, and Grand Champion Red. Gully added, “It was a big turn out and Boots and Buckles does an awesome job.”

A big congratulations to Landon Mosley, who returned to defend his title as Champion Jr Angler. Biggest Flounder was caught by We Knee Deep and Most “Spots” Redfish was reeled in by Danka Dargel. Fort Bend County Fair Queen, Hannah Hunt, her father, and brothers even had a team in this year’s fishing tournament.

The fishing tournament is one of several events that are held throughout the year to help bring awareness to the Fort Bend County Fair and raises scholarship funds.  “We had an amazing turnout, and we were blessed with no rain. It was great to see team members and their families enjoy what we had to offer," said 2019 Fort Bend County Fair President, Marjie Pollard. Todd Armstrong Shows, Rincon Air & Heat Co., LLC., and Frio Ice Chests sponsored the event. Next year’s tournament is set for Saturday May 16, 2020.
