Confused About the Armed Forces Covenant? These Fact or Fiction Videos Might Help

Are you confused about what the Armed Forces Covenant means for you and your family?

With the help of the Army Families Federation, The Naval Families Federation and the Royal Air Force Families Federation, some of the most frequently asked questions have been put to Helen Helliwell, of the Ministry of Defence Covenant Team.

In this series of videos, she answers whether some of these frequently held thoughts about the Covenant are fact, or fiction.

Step into Health is open to all service leavers, veterans and their families. It is an incredible opportunity in which employers are working with the Armed Forces community to provide career and development opportunities within the NHS.

FiMT Report - Benefit not Burden

FiMT have recently published the results of their research into how to improve the delivery of organisational pledges made under the Armed Forces Covenant.

In the brief for this research, FiMT required “a thorough and comprehensive review of how the full range of companies and organisations in Great Britain are delivering Armed Forces Covenant pledges”. It referred to the need to highlight effective policies and practices as well as obstacles to that delivery.

Pioneering research tackles challenges of family separation

Pioneering research into the effects of "weekending" - non-operational separations - on Naval Service families has been unveiled by the Naval Families Federation. View the report.

One immediate result of the project is the production by the NFF of a resource for parents and carers.

Titled 'A Guide for Parents and Adults Supporting Children and Young People', the publication –was created by the NFF to offer strategies and encouragement for families affected by all forms of separation and those who support them.

One finding of the research was that there is a general lack of appreciation that shorter separations still have a significant impact, and the booklet is in part designed to help address that.

Boston students enjoy lesson in army life

Sergeants not teachers were setting the lessons for students at Haven High Academy when they experienced the Army for the day. Fifty students attended the action-packed day organised by the Army Training Regiment (Grantham) at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks, Grantham.

The Hub aims to provide an accessible, contemporary and authoritative repository of UK and international research-related resources and literature on military veterans and their families, including transitions to civilian lives, that informs and stimulates research, policy development, improved service delivery and journalistic enquiry.

It is built to serve the needs of the broadest range of users, including academics and researchers, policy makers, statutory and voluntary service providers, the media and the public, including the military and veteran community.

Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust update

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust has launched a £7.5m programme to award grants to Armed Forces Charities, Community Interest Companies or Armed Forces Units working with Armed Forces Families

This programme is about supporting Armed Forces Families facing challenges. Large grants will help to address substantial challenges; providing funding for transformative ideas. Medium grants will support projects that make a proven difference to families and will support existing work

The Armed Forces Covenant is a voluntary statement of mutual support between a civilian community and its local Armed Forces community. The Covenant outlines the moral obligations between the nation, the Government and the Armed Forces at a local level.
