Improving Doctor-Patient Discussions About Drug Costs With the GR-PBRN

doctor talking to patient

Many patients in the U.S. struggle to comply with their doctors’ orders because they can’t afford their medications, yet most doctors fail to discuss drug cost concerns with their patients. A simple, one-hour training session on the importance of these conversations could help turn this around, according to new study conducted in collaboration with the UR CTSI’s Greater Rochester Practice-Based Research Network (GR-PBRN). Addressing Urban Health Disparities through Participatory Health Research

Bringing together community-based participatory research (CBPR) scientists and community members from the U.S. and around the world, this conference will provide an opportunity for participants to engage in the International Collaboration for Participatory Health Research (ICPHR) global network. The conference will provide a venue for sharing methods, theories and experiences; exchanging ideas and innovations; and enhancing the capacity for participatory health research. Register.

Center for Research on Flavored Tobacco
(CRoFT) Pilot Projects

This request for applications, sponsored by University of Rochester Medical Center and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, is to support new and innovative mentored pilot research relevant to the regulation of tobacco products by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). One goal of the pilot-grant program is to foster careers in tobacco regulatory science-relevant research.

Projects will be required to identify a clear tobacco regulatory science goal aligned with one or more FDA CTP priorities. Priority areas are toxicity, addiction, health effects, behavior, communications, marketing influences and impact analysis related to tobacco products and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). Apply by Friday, May 31, 5:00 pm. Contact Scott Steele, Ph.D. or Deborah Ossip, Ph.D. with questions.

NIH Inclusion Data Now Available

For over two decades, NIH has required researchers to include women, racial and ethnic minority groups and children in their work. Now disaggregated inclusion data on sex/gender and race/ethnicity are publicly available for various research, condition and disease areas. View the information on the NIH RCDC Inclusion Statistics Page.

HEAL Initiative: Clinical Devices to Treat Pain

The Department of Health and Human Services have several Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA) related to the HEAL Initiative with new applications dates. These initiatives encourage investigators to pursue ideas for treating pain with devices to improve patient outcomes and decrease or eliminate the need to prescribe opioids. View the FOA’s.
