Annual conference 2019, Affirm United/ S’affirmer Ensemble
DISRUPTIVE FAITH:
Forging Brave & Inclusive Communities in Divided Times
July 26-28 2019
,
Hillhurst United Church, Calgary
Join us July 26-28 2019 for the Affirm United/ S’affirmer Ensemble Annual Conference, in partnership with Hillhurst United Church , Affirming Connections, and St. Andrew's Regional Ministries. Our rich and renewing time together will include theme speakers, worship, lots of conversation, children’s programming, great meals, and AUSE’s annual meeting. Look for details here, ongoing updates right here , and see our Facebook event here. We'll begin with registration and BBQ at 4:00PM Friday, enjoy a full day and evening Saturday, and end by 2:30 Sunday.

Who? All identities and backgrounds welcome! We need your presence. The recent shift in the political landscape of Alberta has sent ripples across the country. Our world seems more divisive than ever. How can we respond as loving and affirming faith communities? How can we get past our defenses and lean into the discomfort of reconciliation and real healing in our communities? When the voices of religious intolerance, prejudice and hatred seem to be growing louder, how do we amplify our voices as affirming faith communities, and speak up for love and inclusion?

REGISTRATION: Click here.

Cost: Entire conference (Friday-Sunday): $175 OR Saturday only $145. Lower fees for children: see the registration form.
Subsidies are available and we will offer billets, as well as a reduced rate at the Southern Alberta Institute for Technology.  Click here for accommodation info

Program: We'll have speakers, teachers, workshops, and theatre! More details to come.

Our keynote speaker:
Harlan Pruden on"Two-Spirit Reconcili-action!" Harlan is Two-Spirit First Nation Cree/Nēhiyaw, a Ph.D Student at UBC, Community Organizer, Managing Editor of TwoSpiritJournal.com, and past advisor to Obama’s White House on HIV/AIDS. Join us in conversation with Harlan as we explore the diverse nature of pre-contact Indigenous gender identity, expression, and sexuality. Learn how 2-spirit reconciliation plays a key role in decolonizing our hearts and communities, and how we can take action in our commitment to right relations.

Children and youth: We aim to provide child care and children’s programming in Hillhurst United Church’s Kid Space. Look for updates, and be sure to indicate this option in the registration.

Updates: Stay tuned for more information on our program! We are excited to provide opportunities to learn about becoming an Affirming Community, and how to take your Affirming Community to the next. We are working with regional ministries, theatre artists, and performers-- more details to come!
