Staff Book Review

Ice Bear:  in the Steps of the Polar Bear by Nicola Davies

This book brings the reader into the Polar Bear’s World.  Did you know the hairs that make up their fur are hollow?  I didn’t.  Do you know what color a polar bear’s skin is?  I do, but I won’t tell.  This is a children’s book.  Have you heard that the contestant in line to break the all-time longest run record for Jeopardy, reads children’s books to learn something new?  What a great idea!

Tech Tip

Genealogy

Sometimes technology falls short.  After using all sorts of databases and microfilm to research your family history, it often comes down to handling a book, papers, maybe a photo.  I enjoy helping patrons search our materials in the old-fashioned way, page-by-page.  A locally published family history, old photos of a busy 1930 downtown EGF or publications specific to East Grand Forks can be treasures.  It isn’t unusual to not know exactly what you’re hoping to find and there it is!  Great-Grandpa’s ad for his barbershop!
